Not trying to say you were. Its going to take a few years to rebuild, but as they say when in Rome do as the Romans. When your competition is usually top 5-10 and youre floating around top 20 with those high character guys, the rebuild is gonna come to a screeching halt.IDK what the expectation is, but IDT it involves a number-- not this year.
Not really when they can go to Bama Uga etc and getting 100k to sit for 3 years and save their bodies, play one then get drafted in the first round. The basketball model is the way to go. Barnes only landed 3 star nobodies. Then he won with them and put them in the league. Now the 5 stars are lining up to come here. Do the same with football
Can you at least give us a *wink* that they understand what it really takes to win? Surely they aren't naive and think we can win while being at a huge competitive disadvantage. That's not how UT sees it. They see it as rebuilding the right way with players who demonstrate the right character. They feel like they have coaches who can do this in the marquee sports, and they want to give them the resources (including time) for that. That's why you're seeing all the contract extensions and earmarks for facility upgrades.
5 star basketball players is what I was referencing. And they are lining up to come here. Even picking us over Duke, NC, KY and others. Football players will do the same if we can find a coach to have Barnes success in football. Not really when they can go to Bama Uga etc and getting 100k to sit for 3 years and save their bodies, play one then get drafted in the first round.
I know what you were referencing too I just dont agree with it. It's kind of a perfect storm for Barnes K and Roy gone, Self and others in trouble its more luck then anything. Doesn't really matter though he will still struggle to get past the sweet 165 star basketball players is what I was referencing. And they are lining up to come here. I understand the whole “high character” kid angle, but the doubling down with admission standards would just chop our legs off at the knees. Just can’t get behind trying to be the Stanford of the south or whatever. Can you at least give us a *wink* that they understand what it really takes to win? Surely they aren't naive and think we can win while being at a huge competitive disadvantage.
If we’re not paying and raising admission standards, then go ahead and prepare for the Kentucky level 3 star classes no matter. Just absolutely naive of UT to think that’s a path to high level success in the SEC. Football is not basketball. You need studs at every position. One player dropping 30 for a basketball squad and you can win it all like Kemba Walker and UCONN. You put UCF in the SEC, getting worked week after week, and they’re topping out at 8-9 winsDoesn’t matter. Win and put them in the league and more top players will come here. And that’s basketball, that isnt even our top sport and we’re landing players over traditional powers. Football can do the same and has.
SEC basketball is also nothing, especially 3-4 years ago when we were building up, compared to the ACC, or say, peak Big East. That is what SEC football is right now.I know what you were referencing too I just dont agree with it. Who said we would win the division? But we can and will do better. We can win 10 games with the type of roster we’ll bring in with a competent coaching staff. Freaking Ky won 10 games two years ago. And Bama and Ga won’t always be what they are either. Anyone thinking they will be is extremely naive and knows nothing of historySEC basketball is also nothing, especially 3-4 years ago when we were building up, compared to the ACC, or say, peak Big East. That is what SEC football is right now.
Thinking we can even win the division soon (and thus propel ourselves to fame and better recruiting) with 3*s...that's pretty much crazy talk...if that is the case, then the argument holds the same for UK, Mizzou, USCe, Ole Miss, Miss St, Arkansas, no? I can't seriously buy that, so I can't seriously buy it for us either.
Granted, we COULD pull a Gary Pinkel (when the division was not as good), but the odds are so far against us.
I can't imagine the dozen or so athletes who will make enough to owe taxes beyond the lowest tax bracket are profitable enough for tax people to be lining up. Its a simple line item on your 1040, don't really need a tax consultant to help out with it.Any of you morans that are Knoxville based tax attorneys or CPAs should be locking up some of these connected players to help spread the need of your services. No one is talking about the tax implications of NIL, but you can be assured Uncle Sam has his eyes on it.
Permanent 2nd tier is what we’d be looking at. Might have that one-off year where everything aligns (and probably still lose one we shouldn’t). Some “New Age” approach they’re putting together.SEC basketball is also nothing, especially 3-4 years ago when we were building up, compared to the ACC, or say, peak Big East. That is what SEC football is right now.

I agree plus its much harder to rebuild in football due to roster and scholarship turnover limits. The. You're talking a top 3 top 10 and top 15 team on the schedule every year I think looking at what Stoops has done at UK is best case scenario at this point. 2-3 years under AA penalties and then 3-4 after that first Elite class if you can stack a couple after and create depth. I honestly seeing it taking a minimum of 7-8 years to be at the point where we can talk Atlanta seriously.SEC basketball is also nothing, especially 3-4 years ago when we were building up, compared to the ACC, or say, peak Big East. That is what SEC football is right now.

I'll just say we desperately need to cash in our "exceed expectations" card for once and get mojo on our side. Idk how we (and Heupel) survive a couple more losing seasons right now. If we can't even recruit using our 1st year HC advantage and "come help us rebuild" and "playing time" messages, then it's not going to get better.
You’re probably right. But all those teams benefitted from a weaker SEC than today, and don’t have the rivals that we do. South Carolina had their run when Florida, tennessee and Georgia were all mediocre-bad. Same with missouri. Arkansas benefitted from no Saban
