She capitalized on the culture today. Realized if she blames mental health then she can get out of speaking engagements with the media.

I have severe anxiety. Couldn’t stand public speaking or even job interviews. Wish I could’ve opted out of doing them too lol
I am weird when it comes to that, I can speak to big crowds, but I am really introverted, and have a lot of trouble speaking one on one with people I don't know well.

That sounds a lot like throwing in the towel on football tbh

That's not how UT sees it. They see it as rebuilding the right way with players who demonstrate the right character. They feel like they have coaches who can do this in the marquee sports, and they want to give them the resources (including time) for that. That's why you're seeing all the contract extensions and earmarks for facility upgrades.

I get the Rick Barnes approach. What he did in basketball is amazing for how dirty the sport is with nothing but 3*’s. You just can’t win that way in football in the south

Basically same thing here. When I was in college, my senior seminar was in an auditorium and that was fine. I took public speaking in a night class setting with 4 other people and that was nerve wracking. Job interviews are the worst. Mostly because it’s a zero leverage situation

I wouldn't say that. But we're rebuilding a certain way, and the coaches have been assured they have whatever time it takes to do it.
That really only seems realistic if they show progress. How much time are we actually talking about? I'd say they're potentially safe for 4-5 years unless they lose to Vandy multiple times. But if we're 5 years in and not much progress has been made, I don't care who has promised what, fans will revolt.

It's hard to say what will happen five years out. I wouldn't bet my car wash card that we'll have the same people making decisions five years from now. But deals are being structured for long-term stability, and UT wants coaches to feel secure they'll have time to rebuild programs the way they want them rebuilt. Contracts outlast those who approved them.

Future commercial on WBIR:

Hi,
You do not know me, but I am a walk-on third string punter at UT. My name is not important. What is important is my love for Krystal hamburgers. They give me the strength I need to endure those hot August two a day practices. I love to wash them down with a cold strawberry Fanta. So stop by your local Krystal today and tell them I sent you for a 5% discount on your order.

And:
Hi, I’m a former walk on for the UT football team. But, now, I’m first team. And all of the credit goes to McDonalds. You see, the five players ahead of me on the depth chart were hamburglars who got a little too much extra sauce in their McDonalds paper bags. But, not me. I was very happy to only get a sackful of those delicious French fries 🍟.

That’s a great idea but unfortunately that’s not how you consistently win at a high level (football especially). Not very encouraged by the future of the football program after hearing what you’ve had to say the last few posts.

I don’t know why some of you are pissed at the NIL..who cares..and also could very well be one of the reasons we get back to being elite with the potential money we can make players due to our fan base. We always kid about bag men and pay that recruit..this is how we legally do it

I think it sounds refreshing. I'm tired of five stars and four star rosters playing like ass for UT because of the crappy coaching and carousel we have been on. Time to think long term and take our lumps.

Put it on WNML. It beats the hell out of another Heather Harrington spot, or any of those other losers they employ.

Minus John Wilkerson. I like him.

It's nothing new. I've been saying it for months, and Randy/John/Donde/Danny and everyone on the board say the same thing every time they speak publicly. UT is going to rebuild "the right way" and win with people of integrity and character. They have a uniform message, and so far, they've been sticking to it. They've asked the coaches what they need to win, and that's what UT is providing-- time, support, facility upgrades and staff compensation.

What if a coach said they need to stop all this integrity BS to win

You can if fans lower their expectations, at least for awhile. I'm content on 6 to 8 wins for awhile. Get there first, then see what happens.

Seems like some of our older fans think we will be enjoying 90's success in a couple of years. They are living in a dream world

I’m not that disillusioned. The problem is our biggest rivals are the biggest cheaters and winners in the country, and there aren’t 25 other games to offset that like there are in basketball. We’re guaranteed 3-4 losses per year no matter what we do for the foreseeable future.

I’m not sure I agree. I agree you can’t win titles that way, but you can build the program up that way. Spurrier did it at USCe. Petrino at Arkansas (pre affair). Mullen at Miss State. Franklin at Vandy. Heck, Kentucky has had some nice years with mediocre talent. Mizzou won the East twice. The list goes on…

I’m convinced after 13 years in the wilderness, this is the only path Tennessee has.

Super coach ain’t ever coming and super recruits aren’t joining a losing program with NCAA sanctions coming.
