We all thought he was an idiot savant. He was just an idiot. And a jerk. And a cheat.

My brother was never enthused with the hire after he had a HS coach friend who went to his clinic years ago and said he was a denigrating social outcast that lobbed unnecessary insults at the crowd. Man that guy nailed it.

I don't blame us for wanting to believe. The 2018 Auburn and Kentucky games were reasons for optimism. But that four-game stretch between 2018 Missouri and 2019 BYU was just an incredible red flag. I remember walking out after the 0-2 start in 2019 and saying to my brother "This guy isn't going to make it." Not that it took a genius to reckon that. It just seemed obvious he was way in over his head.

Tennessee hasn’t been in good graces with the SEC or NCAA for years and DW alludes to that in one interview on 104.5. I think he understands this is one of his first tasks to fix those fractured relationships and is one reason we were behind the eight ball from day 1 of these issues.

The Tennessee way. We hire a football coach. Fans initial reaction is WTF? Then we buy in before they ever even hit the field. Then when they struggle, we make excuses. Eventually we see the writing on the wall and say we knew it all along.

Rinse and repeat.

The university really loves us and doesn’t mean it when they do this too is.

I bought back in a little after how we finished 2019. I enjoyed that team once they got their heads on straight. But they should’ve been a nice little 10-win squad that finished ranked in the top 20, and instead we dropped games to a loser program that’s barely been around for a decade and then Alontae Taylor was just out of position against BYU. But it was gutsy to finish well down the stretch. Still, we should’ve known. I was heartbroken by our second half performance against Georgia in 2020 and completely abandoned ship after the Kentucky game.

This idea this was all a dog and pony show to save the buyout money just doesn't hold water for me. That’s what so bizarre. We have a former booster-not-a-booster poster that implicated himself in the very thing that unfolded… the oust of an ex-coach that he hated with a passion. This was a hit on both. And why Fulmer was “retired” and looked like a hostage in his presser. I would say I like conspiracies but this unfolded just like we were told 😂. Tennessee football, what is u doin.

Depends on what the conspiracy is. This was a penny pinching maneuver by the high administration? I highly doubt that.

Some faction of boosters decided they were going to take matters in their own hands after learning Pruitt was coming back? More believable.

I'm glad Pruitt and Fulmer are gone. Is that worth a one year bowl ban and some scholarships? Yes IMO. If that's how it went down, so be it. It isn't as if the proper channels didn't have enough time. UT's management of the football team has been incompetent for 15 years.
