Not at all. Let's start with Kirby. Kirby is not a good coach. He is an elite recruiter. Mullen is a far better coach than him. I'm putting Mullen at 3, and for recruiting and the fact that he's been in the playoff, tho he isn't a good coach, I'll drop Kirby to 4.
Orgeron has a championship, but he's also a horrible coach. He should not be that high. He's getting credit though for the championship here which I understand, but everyone knows that was Aranda and Brady. I wouldn't have him at 5th. Stoops is a good coach, what he's done at UK is impressive. But let's be honest, he's at his ceiling there. He isn't going to do anything more than what he has done. He's an 8 game winner which, at KY is impressive I guess. but I think there's a reason why no big schools have come after him. He isn't as good of a coach as Kiffin for example. Sam Pittman should not be above Josh Heupel. Pittman has coached one season. That is completely foolish. Heupel has a record of 28-8. The only reason Heupel is seen this low is because of a covid season. I don't understand why the covid year is held against him on this list but not held against coach O for example. Even in the covid year, yes he lost 4 games, but he lost all of them by one score except for BYU and he had 15 opt outs and multiple injuries. I don't think it's fair to hold that 2020 season against him.
My personal rankings would be:
1. Saban
2. Fisher
3. Mullen
4. Kirby
After this it becomes just a matter of opinion
5. Heupel
6. Kiffin
7. Coach O
8. Stoops
9. Harsin
10. Leach
11. Dorkowitz
12. Pittman
13. Lea
14. Beamer
Why did I put Heupel at 5? 1 because I'm a homer. 2. because I think Kiffin is the top coach in category outside of the top 4 and Heup has destroyed him head to head twice. I like Heup's resume as an OC and QB coach. 2 Heisman winning QB's and multiple draft picks. He's had top offenses at OU, Mizzou, and has had the top offense in football for 3 straight years at UCF. In 3 years at UCF, his offense failed to score 30 points only twice. That's absurd. Also, his head coaching record is very good at 28-8, and without the covid year, his head coaching record is 22-4 with losses to LSU by 8, Pitt by 1, Cincy by 3, and Tulsa by 3. Even when he's lost, that's how close it has been. If the covid year doesn't happen, Heup likely continues on top there at UCF and would have been one of the most desired coaches in the country.
Call me a homer all you want, but ranking Pittman above him is downright disrespectful. Pittman has one year as a head coach and wen 3-7
