The Power 5 is just an arbitrary title that doesn't mean anything.

Adding UCF to your conference and then declaring yourself a P5 conference reeks of declaring yourself National Champion after going undefeated.

"If a team in this conference goes undefeated, are we virtually guaranteed a spot in the playoff?". If the answer is yes, then you are a power 5 conference. I don't think adding those teams from your list would do that for them. Jmo.

It's not arbitrary. They are officially one of the 5 Autonomous conferences, written into the NCAA constitution. Meaning they (the P5 conferences) can set some of their own rules, separate from G5/D2/D3, as they have in the past. Unless the Autonomous 5 kick the Big 12 out (not sure how any of that works), then they are a P5 conference by default. They don't need to add anyone to be so - they just need to if they are going to survive.

Think they have to play through the end of the contract. I doubt they want to pay a buy out.

Legally, they’re saying they will. But I think the Big 12 will dissolve with other schools looking elsewhere, and it’ll seem like lame duck years to stay in the Big 12 beyond this season. When A&M and Mizzou made their respective announcements in the summer of 2010, both schools still had 2 years remaining, but they negotiated out early. I think the same happens with OU and TX.

man that just checks every single box. May get the wife to start lifting ... 🤢

Even in my 20's and 30's never got that big, not even during two-a-days. Take top girl out, might as well throw somw rouge on @nicksjuzunk .
That classification of women’s bodybuilding is dead. Virtually impossible to find a competition because no one wants to look like that. Women’s physique and bikini are the new standards and each are still very attractive if natural, IMO. Any AAS immediately begins to change that quickly though.

It's the Prisoner's Dilemna for the remaining Big 12 teams. Do you work for the collective good to stay together, add teams, and keep Texas and OU on the hook for what they owe under the grant of rights through 2025? Or do you look for a soft landing spot for your school that makes sure your school is taken care of? If 4 more schools do that, then the Big 12 dissolves, and there is no organization left to sue to enforce the grant of rights.

Realignment is very interesting because it reveals in a cold harsh light just what each school is worth. While there have been many "reports" about schools reaching out to conferences, we're about to find out whether being one of the few basketball blue bloods but bringing nothing in football gets you invited to the B1G, or whether Texas Tech and Okie State can parlay their modest success and central time zone footprint into PAC-12 membership. It's going to be very humbling for some schools.

I think you're right - some schools, I'd bet Baylor and K St, are about to be in especially tough spots. What is their value really to a B1G or PAC...maybe ACC. Even though Baylor just won a title...don't think their fanbase is all that big. Wonder if they'd even join the AAC with Houston and SMU 🤔

I think a prisoner's dilemma, at least in game theory, requires the inability to communicate with the other participants. I'd imagine they are talking a lot as they really all benefit from knowing what others are looking at doing. If they want to keep existing, they darn well better team up and go recruit other schools to join. If a few want to run to the nearest P5 conference, then it is what it is, nothing to hide really. Best to know so everyone can find a landing spot. Will be interesting to see just how fast this happens one way or the other.

Should have been…

Hurd/Kelly as the primary RB
Kamara/Berry at RB/WR and moved all over to create mismatches - lined up in the slot, jet sweeps, and in the backfield for two back sets.

Malone and Jennings at WR.

Instead…we had Kamara and Berry standing on the sidelines…

+1 for the use of game theory

This ^^^

Once a couple others announce they are leaving it will all crater.

K-State and Baylor are the two that seem to be in the worst positions. Who wants the #2 school in Kansas? Baylor is small and comes with a lot of baggage, especially if they are trying to get in the PAC-12.

I think you are right about the prisoner’s dilemma having them separated, but even if they can communicate, the incentive structure is largely the same. It may not even be that much of a dilemma, if you can get into a lifeboat, you should jump with both feet. Any reconstituted Big 12 is going to look a lot more like the AAC than the old Big 12. And under the current deals, Big 12 teams got about $37 million per school last year against $7 million for AAC schools. This quote from ISU’s AD a few years back puts it pretty starkly:
