I doubt the SEC cares one bit about UT's win-loss record. The conference cares about scheduling games that get prime timeslots and maximize revenue. Nobody cares that UT is rebuilding or has a new staff or is down a large number of scholarship players and has walk-ons in the two-deep. The onus is on UT to pull its weight. Big brands play big brands, and we're either up to it or we're not.
agreed.

though adding some of the teams being rumored, feels like the ceiling could get further away than it already is lol.

i do think though, that from a timing standpoint, it is a good thing that we have an offensive minded coach and staff, with a couple of solid recruiters. i'm not so much worried about our immediate future. Too much unsettled business on the peripheral for us, and there's already 3-5 top 5, top 10 programs in the league we have yet to match. but give it 3 years or so, and see what we got.

OU, TX and whoever else may join up, they'll figure out pretty quick that playing the teams you play in this conf takes its toll. So I don't necessarily worry about the competition level. it's already stiff....and the news flash for the newcomers is: it's going to be harder on you, than it is on any of us.....

still, I'm a traditionalist at heart, and there's something just not quite right about OU and TX being in the SEC....but, seems it's headed that way, so move on and hope for the best.

Much like Tennessee, if Texas gets its house in order and Sark is the right guy at coach, they will be a player in this league. Their best years in the Big XII were when it was at its strongest, with Nebraska still a national power, Colorado having a run under Garry Barnett, the Purple Wizard's tenure at KSU, A&M in the league, Mizzou and KU having their best runs ever, the Pirate at Texas Tech, and OU under Stoops. That was a pretty tough league from 1996-2009, and they won it 3 times and lost a tiebreaker to play in the championship game a 4th year. When Mack Brown got fat and happy and lost his edge, and they made bad hires to replace him, they went down hill even as the competition in the league got much easier.

Sark is still "Seven Win Steve" as a HC until proven otherwise, but the cupboard isn't bare, and if he can take a leap as the head guy and get his system installed this year, they could hit the ground running their first year in the SEC and by that I mean 9-3/10-2. Don't forget that A&M did real well their first year in the league, and Mizzou surprised everyone winning the East in year 2 and 3. If Texas continues to bumble along complacent with their riches and a sense of entitlement like they have the last 10 years, then they'll get their teeth kicked in for a while.

In this scenario, as it stands now, the West is way weaker than the East. I mean, wayyyyyy weaker.
eh, i don't know about that. i think at it's core, that's pretty balanced, and most years, you'd get the cream rising to the top and have a really meaningful SEC title game.

Many tens of thousands of them. Some willing to pay more allows others to pay less while putting a butt in every seat.

I haven't seen anything officially published recently regarding stadium upgrades other than everyone's wish list on this site.

Is there anything you can share in that regard, especially any potential changes in donation structure and ticket pricing?

Whichever division Bama is in will be MUCH stronger than the other IMO.

Strictly my power rankings per division would be….

West
OU
TAMU
LSU
Texas
Ole Miss
Ark
Miss State
Missouri

East
Bama
UGA
Fla
AU
Tennessee
Kentucky
Vandy
SCar

The East has the top 2 in the entire conference, but after that it feels fairly even. Though UGA vs. OU or TAMU would be interesting.

LSU beat Florida last year. I think AU/Texas would be a good game. Tennessee/OM would be a shootout.

Definitely see that happening to start out. Not sure they get that part.

Though if their theory goes according to their plan, it's possible their recruiting could reach new heights. Then they could go 9-3/10-2 which in a 12 team playoff is probably good enough.
They're banking on Saban retiring soon. The rest of the SEC really isn't that unbeatable. Now that Bama isn't the only one allowed to pay players, parity will be better than it's been in ages starting in 5 years or so. And Texas has more money than everyone to buy players, so combine that with SEC recruiting advantages, I can see why they'd be confident in their chances when Saban retires.
