I lean in favor of Milton, with Bailey second. But I trust the coaches and will pull for whoever they send out there.

Me personally I'd like to see Hooker or Milton start this year, not because I don't think Bailey can do well here.

But I would love to get a RS year for Bailey so that when he takes over next year he's got 3-4 left to run the show. Cause Hooker only has one year left anyway, and Milton enters his 4th year in college. So he could be done after this year too, either leaving for the NFL draft (best case for us actually) or graduate transferring out.
Dream scenario?
Hooker: 1-and-drafted this year
Milton: sits this year, 1-and-drafted next year
Bailey: redshirt this year, sits next year, 2-3 years to run the show, then drafted.

Exactly, and I'm not holding it against Bailey. I'm sure he helped them as much as they helped him, but when someone is throwing the ball around the yard (especially in HS) to that kind of talent it takes the edge off how impressive the stats are.
Which is why so many will say HS stats aren't overly important. It's more about evaluating the player...skills...context.

It feels like he was appropriately ranked...~top 100 player. He just needs time to develop in college, same as most 4 stars do. JG, Ainge, Crompton, Dobbs, Dormady, etc. Bray feels like the closest thing to an exception and even he wasn't completely ready off the bat. And he was just 20-30 spots ahead of Bailey's ranking.

He just needs time, as most guys in his recruiting range do. He'll be fine imo.

But you are holding it against Bailey. Bailey has had little opportunity in college playing in an atrocious offense. Interesting enough Bailey had more TD passes (4) than Keyton, White and Gilbert had recieving TDs combined (3). That trio also only had 193 more recieving yards than Bailey had passing yards in limited time.

I know here on Volnation we like to disparage our own but there are a lot of HS QBs that have had loaded rosters that did not have the prolific success Bailey had while in HS.

Agreed, with a good staff and team around him you could trot him out and win 6-8 games I think. But if you give him the time he needs to really step to the next level then it's closer to that 10-12 wins. I just hope he is willing to put down roots and stick it out. I'm hoping the willingness to stay here this year is proof that he wants to play for UT and not just play anywhere.

I called ya a Zollicofer! Which could be taken good or bad, i'm not sure tbh.

I am going to error on the side of caution and be offended.

He's played one season with an inept offensive minded coach in a covid year while he was deprived of a spring camp.

Fromm played for a smaller school. Went 7-3 as a senior with two D1 recievers. Didn't win state. Bailey did while playing a national schedule. Hardly comparable.
Yeah but Fromm was an elite white guy...

I'm saying any QB with that sort of talent around them will have impressive career stats. The thing that's more concerning for me about Bailey, and one reason I'd like to see him RS is that the 14-2 season was the exception. In no other season had he thrown for 3k yards or 30 TDs, but in that final year the numbers blew up. The team's record in his first 3 years there was 14-20, and then in the senior season they go 14-2 and last year back to 3-8...

Seems like it was a fluke a bit. Pointing out how poorly his former teammates are doing in college would just make this more of a concern too. As Devo said I just think Bailey needs more time to develop and with last year being what it was I almost feel like he's basically an incoming freshmen this year.

I don't care who wins the QB competition as long as whoever it is wins games. I just want to win on the field. We could field a team of walk-ons, and if we were winning, I'd have no complaints.

Okay, maybe a few complaints, but I'd be happy.
100%

Biggest worry is maybe we just don't have the guy yet. If 1 guy can't separate himself from this pack, then it begins to get a little worrisome. None from the group have succeeded at a high level in college yet, so we just have to hope one has that in their future.

At this point, just putting faith into Hype and his offense. I'm not convinced it requires a great QB to run, as Gabriel seemed to show.

understand the sentiment, but i think he earned those accolades in spite of his situation here, not because of it. he had a bagman for a position coach, after all. i'm bummed he left, but my feelings about all of it pretty much end there.
Not his first season.

They're learning what VN always knew. Trey is a special player. I really hope he just tears it up in the league, and above all else, stays healthy.
They kept coming at me on Twitter on draft day when I issued that last line…”Quentin Nelson level.” 😎
