How did so many people not see this coming? I have said forever that this kind of stuff would be exactly what would happen...it's going to be a disaster for us if somebody doesn't figure this out pretty quickly.

Agents (the ones who will benefit most from all of this) worked very hard to frame this as a poor starving athlete vs. big rich school issue and on the surface it can look that way. No one wanted to admit that the benefits will largely only come to those who were already benefiting enormously -- less than 1 percent of college athletes. But the NCAA also had some very dumb blanket rules so likewise no one wanted to say that a kid running a youtube channel shouldn't be able to keep running one once they go to college or go along with all the other examples of NCAA rules getting in the way of things that had nothing to do with a player's sport, recruiting, or fairness within the sport. People pushed for a 'burn it all down' method and that's exactly what happened. BUT they also didn't think through the consequences of any of it and the NCAA utterly failed to set down any real rules or guidelines. I think at this point the NCAA is tired of fighting and is willing to sit back and simply sponsor a basketball tournament because that's less hassle and where all of their money comes from any way. But we're now left with a version of college athletics that is about to become the most unfair playing field we've seen since before the NCAA started.

It's hard to sell a governing body to fans or anyone else though. We dislike the NCAA because they're a threat to programs we love but it's as if people have given up on the idea that we still need someone to insure a semblance of fairness in sports. I'm not ok with a rigged system that favors the haves so much that it's impossible for anyone to shake things up but a lot of schools and fans are completely ok with that.

I think it's naive to think that the NCAA has ever been a level playing field. For nearly everyone else, with the exception of UT, money begets on-field success.

For the good of the sport - if they are just going to keep consolidating the best teams in the best leagues and letting other conferences wallow and die off - they really need some factor to increase parity. Such as: decreased annual numbers for making the playoffs, championship, etc. Similar to draft spots in the pros.

It’s inevitable since the sport is becoming the mini pros anyway.

We will field a team that will give their all for Tennessee.
Think of the SugarVols. Name 5 superstars on that team. They beat high and mighty Miami full of future NFL players and coaches; many are now in NFL HOF.

NIL will fill certain teams with mercenaries. Our mercenaries folded as soon as they got hit too many times or got behind in a game. Don’t want those players or those types of coaches anymore.

Don’t want those players at Tennessee anymore. I want Volunteers to play for us. Don’t need to be national champs every year. But I want a team full of players that want to play for my university damn it.

15-0 🤠
That's why I kinda pull for good things for HB. He was a kid that committed as junior in high school, I believe, and has remained loyal through everything, still appearing to battle. He hasn't quit, transferred, or went social with anything negative or any kind of "me-ism" that I'm aware of. I'm not saying I think he needs to start or anything, but it's those kinds of kids I like to see be successful here.

I mean when dudes like Milton can run the ball 70yds at the drop of a hat and has the arm he has, it’s hard to beat that especially if you don’t have that ability. Creates a ton of issues for opposing defenses and naturally gives your offense an advantage
When’s he ever done that?

Several coaches around the Sec say we are gonna be historically bad on defense.. I can’t wait to prove them wrong. We maybe “thin” at linebacker but with Young & Baron coming off the end it’s gonna mask a lot of our deficiencies.
I think they’re lazy with their scouting reports. Haven’t hit refresh since Spring. Better for us. 😎

I don't discount arm strength at all. The "arm strength doesn't matter" crowd would have let Patrick Mahomes go undrafted. It matters.

I just see a lot of posts along the lines of "HB is third... Oh it must be all arm strength". To me there is no reason to think Hooker and Milton can't be ahead of HB in terms of accuracy and command of the offense.
Oh okay totally agree we are on the same page my bad

Did you type all that out on your phone?

I mean you are kind of missing the point. He has the ability to do that. Doesn’t matter if it was a real game or not.

That would be like dismissing a players ability in practice abs starting someone who can’t do what that person can do even though they suck.
It does matter. Both sides are trying different things in scrimmages. It’s not an “ability” if you don’t do it against legit competition. And he’s averaged 3.1 yards per attempt in 3 seasons against non-scrimmage setting opponents. It’d be like stating Jancek can crank out a 60 yard reception “at the drop of a hat”…since we’re doing analogies.
