I think for Heup’s offense to work you have to have the legit fear of the deep ball to force the defense to play nickel from the get go. I think with Milton he sees the arm that can push the ball up the field.
It does not work, no matter how strong the guys arm is IF he is inaccurate on those throws.

I don't know, but I think we are overestimating the potential of this offense with these QBs..it seems like we don't have a great choice to me. If any of them were very good, they would be shredding this mediocre at best defense in practice...it doesn't sound like any of them are to me.

If Bailey is truly third on the depth chart, it's just extremely hard to believe he doesn't hit the portal after the season IMO. Heupel would really have to sell him hard on the possibility of being the guy next year, and I don't think blowing smoke up a player's ass is his coaching style. Again, JMO.
It's possible...but if he's still 3rd on the depth chart at season's end...then it's really a moot point. Not going to shed a tear over a 3rd stringer leaving, especially with Jackson coming in.

Interesting takeaways from the Athletic article:

Nothing particularly positive written about Pruitt, some extremely negative stuff about his interactions with Tennessee high school coaches (most of which has been screenshot on twitter already). Tee, Osovet, and Cheney mentioned as positives from that staff, tho. Old staff mostly about just getting the guys they wanted, business is business, and that was it. New staff approaching recruiting from a relationship perspective. Even if a high school doesn't have SEC-caliber players, new UT staff still stays in contact. Heup, Golesh, Elarbee, and Mack mentioned as having a lot of contact.

When asked about future NCAA sanctions, all but one HS coach said they didn't think it would have any effect. Mentioned that most HS players are numb to the idea since seemingly most programs are under investigation for one thing or another with very little in the way of repercussions. No HS coaches report hearing other schools using possible NCAA sanctions to negative recruit us.

Asked if Heup can turn UT around, one coach had an interesting answer: "Tennessee has to bring the sizzle and the glamor back to the program. But they can’t do that by just recruiting four- and five-star kids in the state, because Alabama will get the ones they want anyway. They’ve got to get the two or three in-state difference-makers that fit them, that will contribute at an early age. Because with the transfer portal, a kid will come back to UT from Alabama if his buddy is having a great experience at UT and is playing. … (The Vols) can’t just chase stars. They have to chase kids who can contribute right away and are the right kind of guys."

"Best UT recruiter you've met?" -- Golesh mentioned several times. Chavis mentioned a couple times. David Johnson, Tee, Thig. One coach says too much turnover since Fulmer to really know who does well over extended time period.

Great piece. Consider subscribing.
Interesting that Golesh was mentioned among best UT recruiters.

If Harrison Bailey, the 4th-highest Georgia high school passing yard holder (next to Deshaun Watson/Jake Fromm/Trevor Lawrence) is our THIRD string QB, we are in a good place. That's how I read this. I hope he stays, but I'm not worried if he leaves. I am especially comforted about the situation given our HC's experience as a QB and developing QBs.

I don’t think you can really judge it like that….. in these scrimmages….. we are working on specific things on both sides of the ball with multiple moving parts…. In the games…. We will have our starters and be running our game plan against a true opponent…. I can’t wait.

I look at it as a comparison between a Freshman with no coaching whatsoever vs a Freshman with actual coaching. Given the circumstances last year, he probably did better than expected. His performance during the Orange and White game was a miraculous improvement. It’s all taken with a grain of salt.

Who here wouldn’t like to see Bailey have an entire game proportional to his play in the Orange and White game? 12/15 passes for 260 yards. One third of a game. Multiply by 3…36/45 passes for 780 yards. Yes, I know that is not realistic. But how ecstatic would you be with the stat line UT QB 36/45 passes? 80% completion rate? Against any of our opponents that would be a phenomenal accomplishment.

I don’t honestly care the order of our QBs playing. I actually trust CJH as a former QB and OC to pull anyone that’s not getting the job done. I hope to never see another season of depressing QB performances with no repercussions whatsoever. It had to be demoralizing to the other QBs and the entire team.

Oh, and in case you weren’t aware:

15-0 🤠
I would be ecstatic if he played in games like he did in the orange and white game.

I thought recruiting was one of chavis’ biggest weaknesses

I don't know what to think, but my confidence in a really good offense is waning everyday, I do have confidence it will be much better than last year (not saying much) and I think it will improve over the next few years as the system is firmly implemented and recruited for.

I hope I am wrong and we blow up and surprise everybody like Castle Bravo...

Preface: I think HB might end up being a great QB here
BUT, fact is: Like 90% of his passing yards can probably be attributed to having BALLERS catching his passes, namely: Arik Gilbert, Ramel Keyton, and Ricky White so really the HS stats don't tell the whole story

Haven't seen anything about Beckwith lately. Seems he may be lost on the RB depth chart. Hopefully, he can find a position to contribute.
I think the only other place would be WR and that position is even deeper. I know some think TE/H-Back, but if he can't be physical enough (which seems to be the problem) then he becomes a liability when he is on the field. But I am like you, I hope he finds a place.

I think we will blow up…. We may have some poor games too against some of the better defenses…. Just remember that when he became Missouri’s offensive coordinator….. he took over possibly the least talented offense in conference and that is including vanderbilts history. He took a team that averaged 9 ppg in SEC play and improved them to almost 23 ppg in the SEC. out of conference is even more impressive 22.5 ppg in 2015 to 49 ppg in 2016 while facing similar competition.
