The real missed opportunity post-2008 was 2015-17 under Butch. The 2015 team should have won 10 games and had an SECCG berth, and that was with a team that was deemed by many before the season as not quite "ready to win" yet. The 2016 squad brought back all the key pieces, but somehow lost to South Carolina and Vandy. If they did not burn Dobbs's redshirt in 2013, he likely would have come back for the 2017 season, which I think drastically changes the direction of that season. We have wasted so much talent here. Our problem hasn’t been talent, it has been coaching. I’m
Not saying we have Bama or UGA talent. But we have been equal or had more talent than every other team we have played. Coaching has killed us. Let’s hope JH can coach them up because 8-4 and 9-3 seasons should be the norm with who all we play.

Butch still likely ends up fired because he could not develop the talent he acquired, but if he got the aforementioned results his recruiting likely does not drop off and he could have stuck around a few more years. He gets a lot of grief here, and for good reason, but it is amazing just how close he got to making it here.
