"It’s 7 days Till it’s Football Time in Tennessee!

# 7 Condredge Holloway. Quarterback (1972-74)

A fixture in Tennessee athletic history, past and present, Condredge Holloway is best known to Vol fans for the razzle-dazzle offense he quarterbacked during his undergraduate days of the 1970s. Nicknamed "The Artful Dodger," Holloway packed excitement into every play, whether it developed into a pass or a scramble.
In his three seasons (1972-74) as a starter, Holloway directed the Vols to the 1972 Astro-Bluebonnet, 1973 Gator and 1974 Liberty bowls and an overall record of 25-9-2. He ended his career with the best interception-to-attempt ratio in Tennessee history, throwing just 12 interceptions in 407 collegiate attempts.
In addition to being the first black quarterback at Tennessee and in the Southeastern Conference, Holloway also was the first black baseball player in UT history.

The outstanding prospect had been selected out of high school by the Montreal Expos with their first-round pick (fourth overall). Holloway opted instead for a two-sport collegiate career and went on to excel on the diamond, garnering All-SEC and All-America honors as a shortstop in 1975 and finishing with a .353 career batting average.

In 2009, Holloway -- still the owner of UT's longest hitting streak at 27 games -- was selected to Tennessee's All-Century Baseball Team, making him the only UT student-athlete named to all-century squads in both baseball and football.
Holloway's amazing career was the subject of an ESPN documentary, "The Color Orange: The Condredge Holloway Story," produced by Kenny Chesney. It recounted the life and playing days of the SEC's first African-American starting quarterback.
In addition to his recent induction in Alabama, Holloway is a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame and the UT Baseball Hall of Fame, among others. He will soon be honored with a statue outside Neyland Stadium."

@Rishvol hates this 😬

So, say Milton has an ineffective 1st quarter, like im talking about offense fails to generate points/turnovers/etc do we switch to another guy or keep Milton in?
If we aren't moving the ball in the 1st quarter against Bowling Green then we are in deep trouble. Heupel loves to light up the defenses of lesser opponents.

2016 as OC at Mizzou:
September 10 Eastern Michigan W 61–21
September 24 Delaware State W 79–0
October 22 Middle Tennessee L 45–51

2017 as OC at Mizzou:
September 2 Missouri State W 72–43
October 21 Idaho W 68–21
October 28 at UConn W 52–12

2018 as HC at UCF:
Under Heupel, UCF continued to employ an explosive no-huddle offense. The Knights ranked 5th in the nation in total yards/game (522.7), and 6th in points/game (43.2).

2019 as HC at UCF:
The Knights finished 2nd in the nation in total offensive yards/game (540.5), 8th in passing yards/game (316.7), and 5th in points/game (43.4).

2020 was weird because of Covid, but they never scored 20 or less and averaged 42.2 points/game.

Just do yourself a favor and don't look at what his offenses did against P5 competition, especially the better SEC teams.

Not citing this to prove a point, just looking it up out of curiosity.

Heupel-led offenses vs opponents on this year's schedule:

2016 vs UGA - L 27-28
2016 at UF - L 14-40
2016 vs UK - L 21-35
2016 at SCar - L 21-31
2016 vs VU - W 26-17
2016 at UT - L 37-63

2017 vs SCar - L 13-31
2017 at UK - L 34-40
2017 at UGA - L 28-53
2017 vs UF - W 45-16
2017 vs UT - W 50-17
2017 at VU - W 45-17

worth noting - when they hit their stride in 2017, his offense put up 68, 52, 45, 50, 45, 48 and went 6-0 (4-0 SEC)

2018 vs Pitt - W 45-14
2019 at Pitt - L 34-35

Drink/Mizzou made the move in the first half of our game, which was their second last season. Of course all of them were SEC games. Before the UF game Heup will probably have seen enough. Most likely the #2 will have played in the first and third games. So if it starts out awful against them he can make the switch.

Looks dang solid outside of maybe the first half of Y1 at Mizzou.

I'm going in with patience this year. It's Y1 with a brand new hc, oc, offensive scheme, qb, starting rb, etc etc.

People always give new schemes a year to acclimate and expect a big jump in Y2. Considering we have all new [just about everything] this year, I'm going in with patience and hopes of development and growth during Y1.

The issue with these national outlets like The Athletic is that they do not closely cover one particular school so they only focus on the headlines such as a new head coach, transfers, and ncaa investigation. However, anybody who closely follows our program knows that a) Heupel is a far superior in-game coach compared to Pruitt. b) the good players that left the team are only perceived to be huge losses because of the hype behind them coming out of high school. However none of them really lived up to their potential while at UT. And c) this roster is not nearly as depleted as people think. There are going to be a few guys who make a name for themselves this season.

The fact that they have USCjr ahead of us when they are trotting out a first year head coach whose previous highest coaching level was as a special teams coordinator for UGA is plain laughable.

The Athletic does actually have writers assigned to specific teams. Both tennessee and South Carolina have assigned writers. Most of the SEC does.

I agree with most of the rest of your assessment tho.

Yep….. I hope he plays in games as good as I’ve heard he looks in practice…. I’m so excited.

Is Joe Milton generating SUPER significant buzz behind closed doors?

My working theory is that new players who generate SUPER significant preseason buzz actually do play up to the hype (e.g., Cam Newton at Auburn 2010; Cordarelle Patterson 2012; Derek Barnett 2014; etc.). Can't quite gauge the hype-level on Milton. It does seem big - just not sure how big?

Any of you morans know of best MTB trails up in NE TN? Round of beers on the winner...at Che Guevarra.

I don't know if this has been answered yet, but IJAMs and Bakers Creek Preserve are have some really good trails. You also have Windrocl Bike Park that is a little northwest of Oak Ridge. I've heard good things about Haw Ridge.
