Folks are already going to be calling Heupel a bust halfway through the season because of the (in my view) inevitable first year hiccups..Looks dang solid outside of maybe the first half of Y1 at Mizzou.
I'm going in with patience this year. It's Y1 with a brand new hc, oc, offensive scheme, qb, starting rb, etc etc.
People always give new schemes a year to acclimate and expect a big jump in Y2. Considering we have all new [just about everything] this year, I'm going in with patience and hopes of development and growth during Y1.
It would only take a few key injuries for me to change that prediction... My VFL friend watched a practice in the spring and made me really worried. He said we had zero linebackers. But they seem to have gotten much better at that spot with the additions and others coming back. USC, Vandy, and three cupcakes makes 5-7 the bottom line for me. Hopefully we can find 2-3 more wins against KY, Mizzou, Ole Miss, or Pitt. You and I sniffed out Pruitt’s BS pretty early, so I respect your opinion on this stuff.
7-5 would be almost unprecedented here for a first year coach. Kiffin and Fulmer are the exceptions but they were handed very good rosters.
I just don’t see it this year. I don’t see the talent everyone else does. Doesn’t mean I’m right.
Yeah, I just don’t see anything at linebacker, OL, or DL.It would only take a few key injuries for me to change that prediction... He said he is not sure….. they do seem to like him a lot….. he also said that the team feels confident that they will be good
I’m pretty confident in the dline as a whole. Coaches are really confident in the olineYeah, I just don’t see anything at linebacker, OL, or DL.
Everyone can point to a player or two at those positions, but you need a handful of above average players at each of those positions to survive in this conference. If we get good health, I could see 6 wins. If all goes to hell like a few years ago, 3-4 wins is on the table.

If we only win 3-4 games this year with this schedule, I will be out on JH real quick. HaYeah, I just don’t see anything at linebacker, OL, or DL.

That's fair enough. I agree JH was talking about attitude when he mentioned the stairs. Auburn was bragging about stairs and training. My post was intended to be at Auburn's expense.I guess CJH seems like a significantly better coach to me than Butch and Pruitt, and it is just frustrating that we (anyone associated w/ TN) always are treated like clowns. Hopefully we change that view starting 9/2.

We had no DL coach last year. Now we have Rodney Garner. And people think there won't be a difference. There are 2 OL that have been projected NFL draft picks on this line. (Cade & Wright)
The DL I feel most confident about honestly. Ya got 4-5 guys that were legit 4/5 stars coming outta HS and then you got good depth at different levels of experience as well as a variety of size, even without counting the "edge" guys. If a few new faces show out they could be very good. (Byron Young, Eason, Terry, Tremblay, etc.)
And the bulk of the talent is still very young in Omari, Bailey, Baron, Simmons. I just feel like that group has the best balance of size, experience, talent, and coaching to show out early.
I'd say Secondary and DL to me at least are the best 2 positional groups on the team as of right now without having seen 'em play based on who returned, who is coaching the groups, and the ratings of the talent recruited in those positions.
I am most optimistic about the RB group, I actually expect them to be pretty impressive. Feel like some real potential studs in that room and all of 'em got that "dog" in 'em from being undervalued coming outta HS. Plus I really like Mack as a coach.
