Fill in the blank SEC Power Rankings:

1. Alabama
2. Georgia
3. Tamu
4. Auburn
5. Florida
6. UK
7. Ole Miss
8. LSU
9. UT
10. Miss St
11. Arky
12. South Carolina
13. Mizzou
14. Vanderbilt

3-7 is a huge tossup
So is 9-13

Could possibly rank UK and South Carolina a bit higher based on game 1, but don't want to overreact to 1 game.

Heups offense makes it difficult to stay with two deep safeties all the time…. Last time they played Narduzzi….. UCF threw for 330 yards…. Completed 2 over 50 yard passes and 1 over 30…. Pitt did give them trouble though picking off 2 passes and getting 6 sacks…. Hope Milton has a good game this week.
Two picks came in the RZ too which is why context is incredibly important in assessing that loss. Also, their last offensive possession before Pitt took the lead with 30s left, they had back to back TDs taken away bc the TE couldn’t keep his feet in bounds. Same play same pass same catch and no reason other than lack of focus that the TE didn’t stay in bounds. Should’ve been up by two scores and game over. Instead, fg and Pitt wins.

I think we will see some real flashes against Pitt, but I still expect us to have a couple bad series. We should easily beat Pitt.

Curious - based on what? We could certainly win, but not seeing a blowout by either team by any means either. Think both defenses could do well. These early season offenses (p5 vs p5) are a**. Cept UCLA. Chip's boys looked good.

We really aren't that thin anywhere on defense.

Might be looking at a talent drop off, who knows. But we aren't 2020 Arkansas where the same 5 have to play every snap of every game.

We were literally clinging to LB and DL transfers..I don’t recall being thin in the backfield but definitely talent level drop for sure. I’m just saying with how fast josh wants to work on Offense he has to get results or this Defense will tank…it’s honestly a recipe for disaster.

True but snapping the ball on average 8 seconds into the clock and going 3 and out multiple times will wear them thin quick.

Don’t disagree but that is why we were running the second team defense every other drive. So that we have experience in our 1 and 2 deep for those situations.

That guy should be a P5 S&C coach. He's so good. That said, whatever his issue was here may be well known. Some type of impropriety.

I thought it was basically that Butch was losing the team, probably because of how he handled AJ situation, and there was a contingent of players who didn’t want to work as hard as Lawson had them working. To appease those players, Butch fired Lawson.

I may have sort of retrospectively made that up, but that’s vaguely how I remember it going down.

Excuses. You play your optimal offensive style. If the defense wants rest, the best way (by far) is to get themselves off the field. The opposite of what we did last year.

Just consider the difference in a 3 and out fast vs not. Let's say snapping after 8 seconds vs a more regular 20 seconds. At worse, that's a difference of 24 seconds less rest, compared to an ~average offensive pace (obviously no difference on 1st and 4th down punting). 24 freakin seconds. Furthermore, if the offense isn't moving the ball on 1st/2nd down, we tend to slow down a bit. For instance, if on 1st and 2nd down we throw incompletions, we aren't going fast, so there's even less difference. And if fast-pace is your optimal offensive style, then in theory you'd have fewer 3rd and outs than if you didn't. Lastly, the opposing offense is playing too...sometimes people act like only the defense is subjected to stamina. DL also rotates more than OL.

Overall, that point is just so overblown imo. If an extra 24 seconds is causing stamina issues, we need better conditioning (another advantage is we practice FAST and get used to it on defense, other teams don't...our conditioning in theory should be top notch).

I had a friend go over there that ended up bartending with me after his tour while I was in college. He told me similar stories. Except he was in afghanistan
I just called him to confirm this story because I didn’t want to misrepresent him or get it wrong..

But he said someone in his squadron saw a kid crying alone off the street, so he asked them to hold up, so he could help him out or ask what’s wrong.. he was told no by the squad leader and got bent out of shape about how cruel that was.

A few hours later, they got word down the pipeline that a suicide bombing happened near where the kid was. Turns out, the kid was strapped to explode and was either crying to bait soldiers to his aid.. or crying because he knew he was about to die.

Either way, that’s the most harrowing story a former military man has told me personally.

Edit: for those wanting a specific location.. he couldn’t give one since it was a decade ago now. But it was in Kandahar.

That sounds familiar, but I also remember hearing something about something showing up during an audit.

I just have a hard time believing he let Lawson go, no matter what the players thought. He was the best coach on staff, you could say.

How many 3 and outs did we have vs the daunting BG defense? (I honestly don’t know, so curious)

How good did our strength look Thursday? I was impressed.

I can remember games vs scrubs in recent years where we couldn't simply punch it in the endzone at will, our DL couldn't push, our OL couldn't push, our LBs would fall back vs RBs and our RBs would get stood up vs LBs. We were the ones gaining all those little advantages all night. Was very pleased with all that.

No. What he did to Mat was criminal. And he brought his obnoxious, "explain every single detail like everyone reading is a toddler" style. And my goodness, I'd hate to have a conversation with him based on the dialog he writes, so so awkward. I was super disappointed in his conclusion of the series.
That's fine...but you are in the minority, and while he didn't "get" Mat at first, he clearly got better at him as it went on. Like I said earlier...nit-picking

I feel totally the opposite of you...I think he did a amazing work on an extremely difficult job, and I think he is a great writer.

Offense has to produce or we are going to lose. I agree with that. This system is not built to win games 13-7.

2

We were dead last in the SEC last year at 31% 3 n outs. With last year's OL...man that's bad and got worse as the season went on.

Yeah - we did have all the Title IX stuff going on then. It’s definitely possible there was some blowback on Lawson, and it probably wouldn’t have taken much to get canned at that time.

With a true freshman QB making his third start..like you are saying, context is key.
