He missed one throw all night. To Tillman on what would have been a TD.

Actually he missed two - one to Jones too but then hit him 2 plays later for the score.

He is playing lights out.

He did play great but he missed more than those 2. He missed another short throw to his right in the first half to the TE.

Stoops out there stroking out on the refs like Butch Jones 2.0

Embarrassing. Glad his ass got flagged, just wish we wouldn’t have bailed him out so more people would talk about it this week
I think that flag was the result of him bitching the ENTIRE game about EVERYTHING.

The ref had enough to let him know it.

We saved his hind end big time, he'd be hearing it alot more if that was the end for them

Ok, I never played or really studied the game. The more I watch, the more I pick up. But for those that did, is what Heupal is doing with Hooker really incredible? I see a QB who just looks at a read or two, but Heupal creates such easy mismatches that it’s genius. I’ve thought about it more and more, and Hooker hardly ever scrambles to make a pass. If he gets pressure, he either gets sacked or just tucks it and runs.

I’m not bashing the kid because he throws a great ball and is really talented. But I believe this is a case where coaching is really putting him in a position to succeed.

The system is designed to do that regardless of the QB. HH actually played well at times at VT. But their system is not all that sophisticated because they still hold onto Beamer Ball principles even with Fuente. Heup and Halzie are doing great things with HH, but they have something good to work with as well.

HH is the ideal guy for this job though. Based on coverage, he makes the read of who has single coverage and notes the routes. The WR's do the same. If they are on the same page you see a lot of what we saw tonight. If the coverage is good, he has the opportunity to run and it comes off almost as a QB draw unless he is running an RPO outside. He has the strong DT ability and even if he doesn't have to run often, it's still a real threat the D has to consider. HB did not have that and Milton was Milton.

HH's issues that I see are not sensing the right tempo to run the O at times, which can cause some procedure penalties. Other mistakes are that he tends to take too long to read the coverage on secondary receivers and not throwing the ball away. He waits for an opening in the rush to dart through and sometimes it's not there. So he takes the sack instead of throwing it away. Sometimes his receivers are the problem - they are not seeing the blitz coming and cutting off their routes quickly enough to give him a quick target. There are not a lot of play checkoffs because of the reads of the D the players make pre-snap. They may adjust the side of the field the play is run, but rarely a true play checkoff.

The improvement and upside of HH is really strong. He has the arm and throws a very catchable ball. He's only going to get better in this O as he develops chemistry with the receivers and the O-line solidifies. Hope he stays for next season. It will help his draft stock as well as the program.

Yes and it’s incredible to watch. This is how Huepel has always ran his offenses going back to Mizzou. It’s all about scheming the primary read into 1v1 mismatches. The way he does it is pretty unique

What’s interesting tho is that it appears he’s ran a lot less RPO than he did in previous years

Even though I understand how bad a lot of the commentators are in our games, I usually don’t complain out loud about it but the fact that ESPN was showing highlights of the recent KY wins against UT while we were ahead in the 4th quarter was really lame. They never mentioned once that Stoops was 2-6 against UT before this game. Not to mention I guarantee that the number of pro UT viewers greatly outnumbered the pro KY. It just doesn’t make a ton of sense to alienate such a large audience like that.
