Lmao. Now imagine being a "coach of amateurs" and making $10mm a year...

Look at it in a "free market" scenario:

A 53 man NFL roster averages about $200mm/yr.

Their coaches average 6-7...let's call it 6.5mm.

So, a 53 man roster is valued at 30x their coach...in what is close to a free market (not perfectly so).

Now, in college, the average coach makes $2.8mm (and nearly double that, in say, the SEC).

Then you have 85 players that make their $100k or whatever of mostly non-cash compensation...so $8.5mm total.

Hmm. So a team of 85 are worth about 3x their HC in a completely artificial market (and in P5 leagues about 2x)...But yet 30x in a nearly-free market...

Hmm this should be a red flag as to equity and who is producing the value and who is receiving it.

Now deduct the free market value of coaching, nutrition, weight training, medical care, physical therapy, travel, food/lodging, equipment, training clothing, shoes, and activewear, mouthpieces, pads, helmets, free haircuts, arcades, etc. and facilities usage for starters. I'm sure a HS prospect could hire all that out of pocket and land in the NFL. If we value coaches at 4 mil what's their time worth if you have to pay them as an individual to coach you? How much for the time of one of the more expensive strength trainers? Also, minus out the value of brand against the value an individual player brings. How much is Henry T really worth? Anyone here still cheering for him or were we really cheering our university?

How much is Tennessee's brand worth to a player who instantly grabs a fanbase he can sell to? It's a top one so that gets minused out as well.

CBS reporting ND to hire Freeman.
Awesome hire for ND. They will get the players and he is a fantastic coach. Hire within to win if you can-- Ryan Day/ Phil Fulmer/ Lincoln Riley/--seemless transition-- prior vetting-- huge recruiter. He is a stud.

I hate this 💩

Supposedly ND is promoting their DC to HC according to CBS. Feels like they could have done better, that's a big gamble on a first time ever HC.

I think it’s smart, especially amid all the craziness this year. Head coach bolts in the middle of the night, promote from within to stabilize and buy time if necessary. It’s what we should have done when Kiffin left. And who knows, they might’ve landed on the next Knute Rockne.

Fickell won’t get one of these jobs this year strictly based on timing. He’s going to make history coaching a G5 team in the playoff and these schools won’t wait for him with ESD 2 weeks away. He’s focused on the task at hand and you have to admire him for it.

He's a unique guy. Article I read said he never envisioned leaving OSU - was not sure he could be a HC. Being an Ohio guy and having that kind of success at Cincy means he's on the hot list everywhere. But I doubt he leaves for anything other than maybe OSU at some point as things stand.

I’ve read ND is also on that list, devout Catholic, which is why he and his family are so happy in Cincinnati and he’s not jumping at just any opportunity.
