I’m not disappointed. I thought before the season that this was a 4-5 win team and they looked the part. They may gel and get better over the course of the season, but we simply are not very good. Any hopes of shocking the world and being a pretty good team should be considered buried at this point. We could still claw to 6 wins but it will be a struggle.
How could yku not be disappointed in 3 turnovers and 13 penalties? Piss poor third down defense. It’s one thing to get beat man on man like Alabama uga and Florida will do to us. It’s another to be completely dysfunctional. Embarrassing as hell

If Milton is out I’m excited to see what HB can do in this offense. For the first time in a while we are scheming guys open repeatedly. He throws a catchable ball. The Milton miss on their broken coverage was so telling. Hooker can’t throw downfield, great runner. Just think we need to get HB off the shelf and see if hes a gamer. If Milton is healthy maybe I have a different opinion. I love going deep and going for the jugular. But man he is missing so many deep balls at some point why even throw it

What was dysfunctional? Lack of pass rush hurt, but our defense is light years ahead of last year with less talent. Not sure what you are watching.

Bad teams turn the ball over and have lots of penalties. I expected them to be bad.

Despite inconsistent QB play and all the stupid penalties, this team had multiple chances to win the game. Considering that is probably the best team Pitt has had in a while (they're probably taking a dive next season), there are some bright spots. It's just so frustrating to see games pissed away by penalties and turnovers. Having the team play disciplined is on Heupel. They need to spend the next week on that along with the Florida game prep (since the next game is a pushover). More disciplined play with Hooker at QB could definitely beat Mizzou and Kentucky. I think a repeat of today would still easily beat Vandy and SC. Hope isn't dead after that game, but now that the problems are obvious, I really want to see if Heupel is capable of fixing or improving them.

If he’s that far off on his deep ball at this point, I feel like we need to move on.. that miss on the broken play was ridiculous.. but he had a few like that again today

Lost the TO battle 3-0
13 penalties for 134 yds
5, maybe 6 overthrown balls
Blowing a 4th and .5 that would've tied the game, after a bad spot

Officiating was wretched and UT should be aggressive in addressing but will not. It was a winnable game and we didn't capitalize when it mattered. Fix it, get better and get some of our key players back. Big picture: SEC play matters more.

With the injuries and QB play I don't see us winning an SEC game outside Vanderbilt and MAYBE one of Missouri or South Carolina. Recruiting is going to be abysmal.

My question from early this week.

How do you see this Pitt game?

1) Nice, early (and entertaining!) test for the Vols in Year 0 of a multi-year rebuild that will help us see where we are?

2) Critical game on which the entire season hinges - if we lose, it sets Heupel back, starting the clock on his tenure and begins introducing doubts about whether he's "the guy"?

Many are showing their cards that they are at #2. I’m still very much at #1.

Losing doesn’t reset the clock. Not competing would imo. You had a very good chance to win. Right in it in the 4th without your best player in evans and his backup. So. That being said. I like being competitive w solid teams.

3 turnovers and 13 penalties is dysfunctional. You don’t think so? Sloppy play. Coaching, inexperience, both or what?

Not even going to address the officiating in this game because if we would have had half of the penalties that score would be widely different.

1) We shot ourselves in the foot over and over with penalties
2) Milton is EXACTLY what Michigan fans told us he was (which was my fear about him and why I wanted to see Bailey in the first game)
3) Hooker is exactly who he was at VaTech and IMO will not change
4) Heupel called some really bad series and the dumbest play I've seen in a while: shotgun on 4th and inches...just mind boggling how he thought that'd be a good play to run
5) I've been at 6-6 for this year, but I'm now at 5-7

There wasn’t a high bar to begin with and we still lost. He turned it over at a pivotal spot late in the game.
Yes he did but he also gave us life. So far we’ve seen 2 very inconsistent QBs. We scored at will when they were ON. Tough times when they were OFF. Have to execute. The potential is obvious…

Difference of style over substance. Let's see if Heup understands that difference going forward.

3 QB TO's, 13 penalties, undisciplined play on both sides of the ball. O-line injuries and in disarray. Losing the turnover battle like that never helps your chances. But add all those mind numbing penalties to it and you get a L.

That 4th and a foot play call will hopefully go down as the worst in Heup's history. I hope never to see that again. Call that last TO and get you and your QB on the same page.

They needed stunts to get to the QB. Not getting off blocks (holds). Hopefully, Young can help with that.

And then there are people, including Heup, who say HB is deservedly third on the depth chart. If he doesn't play, how do we know that's true? Oh, that right, if he doesn't play we will never know if it is true or not. So we are supposed to trust without verification. Again. Uh, how's that worked out over the past decade?

There were positives to take out of this. Special teams were special. The team was not smart, but played hard for 60 minutes. A few guys showed up and were strong. If Theo Jackson keeps playing like that he is going to get paid well. The O scheme is good. Injuries are making the team look worse because of the lack of depth. Need to get healthy. They lost to a solid, well coached team with a future NFL QB. So it was not like losing to GA State.

Swallow the bitter pill and get to work. Especially relating to the gray matter between the ears.

I started at #2, but was willing to give JH a chance to earn #1. Today just slipped him closer to #3.

Need Cooper back bad

That has hurt us more than people realize. Center is a critical position. At any rate, I think we played well today given the circumstances. Half our team was out and the officials really hosed us badly. I wish we'd pulled it off despite that but that is a ton to overcome. I think this game tells us that we can compete with Mizzou and UK but it doesn't tell us that we will win. I hate that but it is what it is.

I think we play florida close.. I wouldn’t be surprised with a win. This team will look a lot different then with players coming back

I agree overall team competed at a high level. Fought off huge turnovers in terrible places. Still had a chance in the 4th. I think they’ll compete all else at and be a fun team to watch. Evans is a beast. Losing him and the backup is a big deal
