I’ll wait to see how the 2023 class shapes up before freaking out about NIL and what UT is doing. If it’s a mediocre class, then we will have our answer on where our football program is headed and its peak.

Haven't been around much. Did I read that you had some sort of emergency surgery recently? Hope all went well and you're recuperating.

Y’all ever use vortex scopes? Where I hunt I need to be able to make 300 yard shots. I need an affordable scope that has good magnification. Vortex is what I’ve seen recommended
I’ve used a crossfire, a Diamondback (tactical version), a spotting scope, and a higher-end range finder… all were high quality products. Put down both a pronghorn and a mule deer at between 200-300 yards with the Diamondback this year after missing multiple shots at that range with a lesser scope the year before.

I have about every brand Bass. You just can’t beat a Leupold. Have a vortex on my AR-10. No problems with it. It’s just what you want to spend. Always been told spend on optics the same as the gun.

That's the way it's always been and that's the way it will be going forward. It's not gonna change.
It has never been like this. There are 4-5 schools stacking 90+ average classes..year after year after year for the last 10-12 years. If USC and Texas get it going there will be 6-8 getting them all.

So... it's a new year and I'm not looking to cause consternation and angst. I thought I was clear, but I guess I wasn't. What I'm saying is, UT is looking to build a good culture and strong, stable programs, and they have a plan for what that entails and the kind of people who are a good fit. It doesn't mean UT doesn't want good players or doesn't want to win. Everybody has their own definition of how many wins and which players are "good enough."

UT is working with Spyre on NILs, but finding players who fit what UT needs and matching deals to that is a complex process. Spyre's leadership is a group of UT alums, but the company is not part of the university-- it's a vendor partner. UT's role is clarification and compliance, not donor commitments. Spyre and other affiliates build the deals, offer opportunities and create sponsorships and endorsements, using outside funding secured by the agencies, not UTAD.

If a top player is interested in coming to UT-- and some are not-- then Spyre can try to work a deal, using the resources available. Other programs are higher on top players' wish lists right now, and other programs can match whatever UT brings to the table. NIL was always going to be a hornet's nest, with the level of compliance and integrity dependent on the university. It was never going to level the playing field or fund lucrative deals for more than a small subset of players. It's a moving target that favors high-profile programs with championship aspirations and deep pocket donors who want to win at all costs. Guidelines vary by school, and things may be completely different next year-- just like UT football. While it all works itself out, UT will keep rebuilding with the players our coaches think are a good fit and are open to what UT offers. Will that translate to more wins and close the gap with our rivals? We'll see.
It’s too late….. you already have most of the people on this site thinking we are trying to be orange Vandy! 🤣

That Sankey turning a blind eye to it happening to a conference team proves that he works for our cross-division regular opponent and is rigging (in this case by inaction) the league. Oh wait, you said learn not confirm. I guess no need to mention the uncalled OL holding on the same plays. You good.
I don't think they had one offensive holding call against them...and they were holding egregiously on every freaking play..

Sorta ironic. Nobody wanted to pay these kids their equitable value for decades. Now they're making bank...and the universities still aren't the ones paying it lol. Insanity.

Jmo but the end game (since SCOTUS will probably come down hard if schools, aka the NCAA, try to limit or cap their students' "side earnings") may be to finally make them employees and contractualize moonlighting restrictions. Or something like that...I'm no labor attorney.

I'm just sure the other 90% of FBS programs are worried about the current situation of getting further left behind. Get enough push in the NCAA and I think they'll be begging to change it before too long.
Has to be a cap and a draft if that is the case. This ain't selling widgets..this is not a normal f'n business. Otherwise this ain't nothing but exhibition 🦬💩 with 6-8 Globetrotters and 110 Washington Generals.

I want the NFL to form their own minor league, and sign every player that wants the money, and I want college to be amateurs that play for a scholarship and love of the game like it is supposed to be.

I would not watch that minor league pro 🦬 💩, but I would support the Vols if they were all walk-ons. That is what you don't get about it, because you have a mind of metal.

Big Ben wins his last game at Heinz in true Big Ben fashion. Owning the Browns. What a career. Wish he had one last playoff run, but most legends tend to go out with a whimper unfortunately.

It’s crazy to think that Brady is really the last of the “old guard”. Once he retires, all of the QBs I grew up watching in my formative years will be officially gone. Arguably the greatest QB generation, too.

Manning(s), Brady, Big Ben, Brees, Rivers, etc. Just so much talent.

Two in the last week… it wasn’t a good end to 2021. But I’m alive and here with my girls. That’s all that matters. Getting better every day. Thank you for the support, LA!

@Ulysees E. McGill - I’m flying through book four. I really like where Perrin’s character is headed.
I love the books..I didn't hate The Slog as much as some do, but that will be the part that tries you. I myself loved the maneuvering of all the different political factions, the schemes of the Forsaken and all their pet Darkfriends, and story and character expansion of books 7-10.

Oh yeah..my favorite "mid-major" background character....Verin.

The top players wanting top dollar aren't that interested in rebuilding UT... and if they were, they could get whatever they wanted, or more, from another program closer to being a playoff team. Big money boosters aren't going to pay big money to fund NIL deals for lower level talent trying to make bank. And UT is looking for a certain type of player who fits a profile and meets a specific need, so UT is having to be choosier.
In other words...we are screwed. We are going to be David and Goliathing this in perpetuity. 🤦‍♂️ I love that in a way, but it would be nice to think you would have a real shot at a title sometimes.

That is both encouraging and disheartening, but I'm a Vol till I die..win or lose.

I guess it will come down to whether huge NIL strategies pay off. I suspect it will. If those elite players only go to the programs willing to make them rich before they step on campus, those programs will dominate the ones that don't.

This also has coaching ramifications. The best coaches will want to go to the schools that are getting the best players.

I believe the teams that don't invest heavily in NIL deals will become farm teams for those that do. We're already seeing it this year. I fully expect that to continue.

None of this is new. UT has been saying it all year, and I've mentioned it several times. UTAD, every person in admin, every coach in every sport talks about it, and it's a talking point in interviews and presentations. UT has dismissed valuable players with academic and character issues-- this year in FB, but for several years now in other sports. Key players on other WBB teams were dismissed from or pushed out of UT and are starters at other programs. Academic clauses are in coach's contracts, along with academic bonuses. UT wants a strong culture and strong teams-- no arrests, no embarrassment, no drama and SAs repping the school with pride and graduating with a degree.

The right coaches can win at UT. They have the resources and are being given what they have asked UT to provide. But it has to be people who can work within the system UT has set and recruit SAs who can thrive and excel in that environment. UT leadership has set a path, they feel it's the right one and they believe they have the right coaches in place. Time will tell.
Well...at least it will be teams that are easy to pull for...even when you know you are probably going to get embarrassed when playing the elite teams.
