The last all star game in any of the big 3 sports I remember fondly is the Ichiro inside the park HR in 2007. Besides that, they’ve never been interesting to watch. My dad tells me of the glory days in the 80s when they’d actually pretend to care about the games. But I never got to see that.
Football has never been super competitive that remember….. 80’s were awesome for basketball…. Those guys had so much pride and couldn’t stand losing….. the 70’s in baseball was even better…. They just flat out hated the other league.

Velus is a good all around player, but he underachieved this year. With his speed and athleticism he was covered up way too much.
So for reference....since 2012 there have only been 2 receivers (Justin Hunter 2012 and Tillman 2021) that had more catches than Jones last year and that includes Callaway, Jennings, and Palmer. Not sure how much more you expected LOL

There is no reason Velus shouldn’t of had 1,000 yds in the offense we ran. You can smug LOL all you want but it’s the truth. Also, you are focusing on 2 individuals out of an entire WR room.

What about a Hyatt, Keyton, Payton, etc etc we couldn’t even rotate WRs like we wanted to because we didn’t have anyone who could step up from those guys.

Dude - a situation like that always takes 2. Watch from the beginning again. Howard is trying to go through the handshake line and leave and the Wiscy coach steps in front of him and puts his hands on him. Stopping him from passing amd starts yelling at him.

You're making an assumption he said something too. He might've, but that also doesn't excuse the Wiscy coach from escalating and putting his hands on him first.

All I'm saying is that this isn't a 1 sided affair. Howard is a tool, yeah, but he didn't walk into that handshake line to start something and that's clear from the video.
You really think the winning coach went over to talk trash for absolutely no reason other than he just wanted to rub it in? Or is it more likely Howard had already said some nasty things after the time out call and/or several times after that and the wiscy coach was responding to those words?

Where did I say Gard "went over to talk trash" and "rub it in?" Straw man much? I absolutely don't think or believe that - and have not once said as much.

Its okay if you don't agree that Gard bears some blame in this altercation. I'm not forcing you to agree with me. But you sure seem pretty bothered I'd think that.

1. This wasn't between two employees who know each other and work for the same boss, etc. 2. Gard didn't simply "touch" (he grabbed him and held him) him by the elbow and restrain him to say something (something he absolutely has no authority or right to do, especially after Howard tried to walk away). Gard aggressively got in his face too. So, in your analogy- you get back in your colleagues face and your colleague was mad in the first place because of something you said and y'all have a yelling match.

It's not 1-sided. These things never are - and that's not an opinion. That's conflict-resolution 101. He doesn't deserve the same level of punishment as Howard - but he deserves punishment and that doesn't mean they're consenting to "expecting violence" which is an absolutely absurd jump.
How is holding on to someone's elbow while they walk by to explain something
deserving of punishment? In any setting?

I don't think I've ever disagreed with any of your posts in the last, but man I have no idea where you're coming from on this one. This whole "it always takes 2" is completely untrue. Sometimes, a lot of times, someone who acts reasonably is responded to unreasonably by a hot head. Just because someone could have avoided a situation if they had acted perfectly instead of just reasonably doesn't mean they should be punished.

It's not a straw man. The only logical reason anyone would think he deserves punishment is if they believe he did those things. Because everything we can see that he did was not deserving of punishment.

It bothers me because you're usually so logical and rational, and in this one instance it seems you've totally abandoned both.

This shows how well AD White has stoped all leaks. We heard rumors of them looking in other directions but no one said anything about a job interview or anything. Kinda nice for news to break through “reporters”

In yesterday's interview (with DM) during the staff continuity discussion, CJH did say we need to wait to see what happens with the NFL. I didn't put it in the cliff notes as I couldn't think of any assistants who would be in consideration for a move to the NFL. Putting 2+2 together, this leads me to believe CJH already knew this was in the works and was a result of the position coaches being at the Senior Bowl. Sorry for not mentioning it in the notes.

I mean Velus was also the best KR in the SEC and one of the best PRs too... I think he got less WR production because of that (also because even as high octane as we were we still didn't throw the ball that much). Hooker only had 206 completions on the season. Velus was also not playing the deep threat position so he really needed another good 15-20 catches from his position to hit 1k yards.

I think we'll actually see more yards in our passing game this year than last.

Oh they definitely cared. Pete Rose ruptured Ray Fosse's ( catcher for the AL and Indians) spleen on a play at the plate. That was in the 70's.

I offered up another option since you seemed indifferent to my 1st one.
Liked it more as I read it. The Texas connection is a plus. Wondering why Burns was hired to replace him before Heupel left? Was he moving to another position group? Some of those names on his watch are impressive…especially Gabriel Davis.

Yeah I think its just a different perspective thing and us putting weight on different things. I don't think its a big deal, just a difference of opinion. Also, I like your commentary on most things as well so I don't want any of this to get personal. I'll try to explain my perspective a little better.

I feel Gard had no authority or right to hold onto/grab him at all. Grabbing him in of itself isn't necessarily a cardinal sin, but it contributed to the escalation. Even Howard noted that him grabbing him is what ultimately pushed him over the top.

And I'm sure Gard knew that might happen because Howard is a well-known douchecanoe and hothead - but I admit that's conjecture. I think @MoCo_Vol said it well in his post.

"It takes two people to keep an argument going" is conflict resolution 101. It takes 1 to stop an argument with disengagement and self control. This is where I'm thinking about this from: The product (an argument that escalated to violence) was the result of at least 2 parties continuing an argument. The presence of the product lends credence to what went into the reaction. If Gard just slaps his hand and walks by without entertaining Howard then it moves on. But he chose to grab him and step in front of him - which triggered the hot head. For that I personally think he bears some blame - not anywhere near the extent of Howard, but he should not be grabbing anyone from an opposing team.

Rick Barnes wouldn't grab ahold of Penny Hardaway after the Vols kicked their butts and try to tell him something after Penny mouths off. He knows better than that. In fact, I think Barnes and Calipari didn't even shake hands after the last game and they're good friends! They're wise, and I'm sure they talked later about things that happened during the game they took issue with because they're professionals.

I agree with this statement. The biggest thing I was saying and I wasn’t “knocking” Velus like I said he is a good all around player, is that losing Kodi Burns does not hurt.
