There is no reason Velus shouldn’t of had 1,000 yds in the offense we ran. You can smug LOL all you want but it’s the truth. Also, you are focusing on 2 individuals out of an entire WR room.

What about a Hyatt, Keyton, Payton, etc etc we couldn’t even rotate WRs like we wanted to because we didn’t have anyone who could step up from those guys.
Hyatt produced roughly the same as he did the year before. Keyton hasn’t excelled in 3 years under two different coaching staffs (not sure that’s on Burns).

Payton 2020…19 catches, 225 yards (11.8 yards/per), 1 TD
Payton 2021…18 catches, 414 yards (23 yards/per), 6 TD

So that’s 3 receivers who noticeably improved year to year in an offense that set numerous school records.

Asking for your prayers. One of our goats kidded twins Friday evening. By that night we noticed she was off. Saturday we started her on antibiotics and pain meds for mastitis.

This morning she was much worse. Took her back to vet and she has an aggressive ecoli mastitis and they upped her to a more aggressive antibiotic and pain meds. She is fighting for her life in our home and we are bottle feeding her babies.

We are tired and exhausted, we've delivered 5 goat kids between Friday and Saturday, taking care of a very sick goat along with the regular duties of the animals we care for.

If you believe in prayer please say one for our sick momma Angel and her two babies she can no longer care for.

I raised goats for a while. They can be a pretty fragile animal. Prayers.

I would've never thought that, especially how they can eat almost anything.

My experience is that is a bit exaggerated. They love low brush/shrubs and kudzu is like candy to them, but grass is the very last thing they’ll eat. They are subject to worms and other parasites. Many plants are also poisonous to them, dead cherry tree leaves for example.

I'll be curious as to how Heupel prioritizes recruiting reputation in this next hire. I'm not sure how much weight he actually puts on that.

I saw a video a few minutes ago which was up close to the action and had live audio…. Howard did say…. I’m going to remember that to the assistant coach…. The assistant grabbed Howard’s arm to stop him to argue with him….It just grew from there…. I don’t think it as egregious as many are making it out to be…. I feel the assistant should be suspended for one game for putting his hands on Howard and Howard should receive a multiple game suspension for his open handed swing that made contact with the assistant coach.
Yeah, because coaches never touch each other.

They were both touching each other before the punch. And before that Howard clearly pulls his mask down and says something to Gard while trying to just walk past him without the normal handshake. The actions before the punch are things that happen often, without incident and without punishment. It's normal.

In no way does any of it justify a punch. And in no way can any of it be blamed for the punch.

I'm not sure I'd say that...at least not yet. I don't think Kodi Burns is an elite WR coach, I think this offense just allowed our WRs to take advantage of single coverage or no coverage more and numbers flourished.

Now, the question is if we get a WR coach in here that is more geared toward this style of offense could it be even better? I sure hope so. Burns obviously favors a more traditional style of passing game since he's taking a job in the NFL. Mostly pro style.

I think we can upgrade but I'm not sure if the change will hurt the squad or not just yet. Gotta make the right hire, cause a bad hire could also see us going the wrong direction as well.
Not sure if he was an elite WR coach either. I do know he just landed 1 of the 32 coveted NFL positions for doing so at the highest level.

I'd be hardpressed to think we'd upgrade over an NFL WRs coach when it comes to fundamentals. That said, if we can balance out the Xs&Os and technique with improved recruiting, maybe it'll be a wash or potentially an upgrade. But I've seen this carousel too many times to assume as much as well.

We've reached the point in the offseason where we are poking holes in our record-setting offense and the players that produced it, saying it coulda/shoulda/woulda been better if...

I remember this after the 2012 debacle. With Cordarelle Patterson in particular. We used that dude as a running back, wide receiver, slot receiver, quarterback, punt returner, and kick returner and he set the UT record for all-purpose yards in the midst of a record-setting offensive explosion. I think we pitched him the ball every way possible. And frequently used him as a decoy to get other people open. But by the end of the following summer, we concluded that the coaching staff wasn't creative enough with Patterson and they didn't use him enough and that's why we went 5-7. Somehow we forgot about Sal Sunseri...

Methinks/hopes both coaches and the Wiscy assistant and several players get some form of punishment (including suspension).

Stuff doesn't escalate like that without an instigator. I don't think Howard was very happy, but the Wiscy coach wouldn't let go of him when he tried to keep going. Then the assistant came up and clearly ran his mouth which escalated it. That doesn't excuse Howard's actions, but if the Wiscy head coach just shakes hands and walks away, and the assistant keeps his mouth shut that doesn't happen. It takes 2 to tango. Fine/suspend them all. Obviously Howard gets the worst suspension.
It takes 2 to tango? Nice cliche, but another one that just isn't always true as applied. They weren't tangoing; they were throwing a punch. At least that's what the problem was. And there weren't 2 doing it. Nothing before the punch was out of the ordinary.

1 game for Howard and that's all. These kind of incidents make the sport more fun, I'm tired of seeing players and coaches loving on each other.

He's not a NFL WRs coach, he's leaving to become one so not exactly the same thing there.

Burns obviously didn't have the chemistry with this staff, was hired to work at UCF then Heupel came here and offered him the same spot here. One season later and he's leaving to be a first year NFL WR coach for a brand new Head Coach with a defensive background.

We can get make a hire that's a better recruiter, some names I've seen floating are without question better in that area. (YAC & Gonzalez for example) but really they need to make a good philosophy/chemistry hire one.

Well, semantics lol. Most every college WRs coach would love to have one of those 32 spots and get to stop recruiting. So, something is being seen in him above and beyond the other 100+ D1 coaches. Was my point. Otherwise, agree. Though I'm also curious, like Weezer, how much he puts into recruiting when finding a fit. Maybe we'll see...maybe not.

Someone mentioned that Burns had been looking for a new landing spot since the end of the season. I’d imagine this wasn’t a surprise to Heupel and a replacement should be found in short order.

Coaches throwing bows are what makes the game more fun?

I sort of enjoy when the ball thingy goes through the hoop more often or when a great block is made. Great play makes it more enjoyable to me...but maybe that's just me 🧐

This isn't hockey, a sport full of thugs where many people watch merely to see the barbarism. If you want to see a good fight, go watch Jeremy Pruitt wrestle an asparagus spire with his spoon.

Obviously you don’t watch hockey. Stupid take.

I'm not worried about Heupel's ability to find a WR coach. This doesn't seem to be a super complex system to learn/teach from a WR perspective and you're position is almost guaranteed to put up video game numbers, which will mean quick upward mobility.
He knows what he wants from each coach…teaching wise. We’re not going to see any Chris Weinke types coaching running backs or even Niedermeyer’s running TE’s one season and ILB’s the next.
