Opponent-adjusted (batter for batter on the specific day), either '72 Nolan Ryan or '04 Randy Johnson was actually the best ever and it isn't that close.

I question the validity of adjusting for opposition when he fanned 20.

He was taking the bats out of their hands.

If you put balls in play it’s some measure of chance as to whether or not they’re hits. Strikeouts, however, are not hits.
 
Gilbert is not doing much better but he at least makes contact. I thought he would have a monster year this year
.350 average vs .280 is pretty significant. Luc does have 11 home runs but with only 25 rbi‘s show he isn’t hitting in the clutch.
