There is no way to show the reason why in a picture...but the Sequoia grove is my favorite, well I can't really say favorite, the setting just produced a strange feeling that I have rarely ever felt...it's hard to describe....just pure awe. A weird mixture if feeling puny and insignificant, but warm and protected at the same time.

I didn't show the one of me sitting at the bottom of that giant for scale...but it was almost a football field tall and wider than my house at the bottom, and they were all around us.

All the other great spots were spectacular and breathtaking, and most of them also make you feel small and insignificant (like Taft, Glacier and Olmsted Points, or Tunnel View and many spots along Big Sur) but none of them gave you that strange warm protected feeling.

We were going to see the Grizzly Giant, but they had the Mariposa Grove rd shuttle closed for some dumbass government Covid reason when we went, so we were going to have to hike several miles with hundreds of feet of elevation gain just to get to the Mariposa Grove..and I can't do that anymore...so instead we went to Calaveras Big Trees state park(which is absolutely awesome) which is a 100ish miles SE of Sacramento as soon as we got our rental car. We got there late in the afternoon with just a couple of hours of daylight left, but we had the whole grove almost completely to ourself.

I left VN this morning with folks bemoaning minimum wage (lulz)… I know we’re back on track when Nick threatens to knife an interloper.

@nicksjuzunk doesn’t threaten to knife.
It was his special invitation to a bladed workout. Distinct difference in the eyes of the law.

One is assault with a deadly weapon, the other is an unfortunate injury (injuries) sustained during a workout…

With @nicksjuzunk’s method, he can even bill the knifed individual for his expert tutelage.

Just like when this Memphian brings along a bladed medical instrument to a similar event…I have the invitee sign a procedural consent form as well as an acknowledgment that their insurance won’t cover the cost of my procedures. They can also be billed.

We have learned that it’s better to collect our fees up front…tricky trying to explain it to next of kin you see.

Can y’all keep my father in your prayers. He went in for a kidney stone and they have found a mass (unrelated to the kidney stone) and he has an appointment to find out more information. I don’t know the location of the mass but am still freaked out about it (he decided not to tell me until an hour before his appointment this morning).
