Recruiting Forum Football Talk IV

It's not really. I was used to watching whole games for kids on VHS back in the day. Stop, rewind, play, fast forward, repeat... that was a lot of work. Now I can see what I need to see rather quickly. A lot of full games out there on YouTube without all the time between plays as well. I have to do something between the end of one season and the start of another. I started getting sick from a rare genetic disorder in 2007, and became permanently disabled in 2014. Football has helped maintain my sanity.
Hate to hear that! Glad this helps you. I still would not know what I was seeing if I watched it.

I really like the way Heup is leveraging the Tennessee River. I heard him stress it, along with the passion of the fans, in an early off-season interview in answer to a question about Tennessee as a unique and powerful national brand. He talked about the stadium being sited on the river, the Vol Navy, etc. He is plainly leveraging the river in recruiting visits, and you can hear from our recruits that they love it. About the same time, DW was emphasizing it in setting up the future home and away set with Washington. DW: "These schools offer fans the chance to experience two very unique venues on the water in great cities." I don't think anyone would think this is decisive; but it is clearly an advantage that seems to have been underutilized and we are not letting it lie fallow.

My wife got Indianapolis, Fresno, and somewhere in Kansas.. and she was trying to answer the questions honestly 🤦🏻‍♂️. I got Knoxville, chatt and winston salem

My oldest daughter got Reno, NV, Boise, ID, and Nashville, TN. I told her to take the test again and tighten up her shot group, or no supper.

He did a great job of waiting for the best job to open up. He had a good gig at ULL. I was hoping he’d stay for years and become a legend. He wanted to fry bigger fish I suppose.
You could go over to that "best" job's fan site and cheer for him, if you think Gainesville is all that. Maybe you meant "easier"? However that may be, he swapped the great food scene in Lafayette for corndogs and jorts at "the Columbia of the sunshine state." I am laughing at him every day. And don't think he wouldn't do the same if he had the chance. He's not going to love you back. Heup is better. And Knoxville is better. Tennessee is better. That was a weird flex at a die-hard Vols fan that you made there.

Dang Florida still has a bunch of blue chips
I didn’t think floridas recent classes were that much better than ours. Do the team rankings the last 4-5 years reflect that?

I think we’ve just had so much attrition that we’re farther behind than we should be compared to the classes we’ve signed.

I didn’t think floridas recent classes were that much better than ours. Do the team rankings the last 4-5 years reflect that?

In 2018 UF's roster talent ranked #12 with 35 blue chips; We were #15 also with 35 blue chips.
In 2019 UF ranked #15 with 39 blue chips; We were #16 with 36 blue chips.
In 2020 UF ranked #7 with 48 blue chips (They won the SEC East); We were #15 with 36 blue chips.
In 2021 UF ranked #7 with 56 blue chips; We were #19 with 29 blue chips.

Obviously they lost some blue chips from last year so they're down to 41 and we dropped a couple more as well. As I said before we probably know our roster better than their new staff knows theirs (obviously a problem we likely had to some extent last year).

That;s said, McElwain's first season with Florida he went 10-4 and won the East.
In Mullen's first season in 2018, he went 10-3.

I don't know if Napier will be able to follow that same pattern or if their blue chips are worth all that much. We're going to find out. jmo.

So in following their development and our development, based on what they're saying down there, this is how I figure we stack up with them on the field this year. They have some talent but not a lot of experience in some position groups. Richardson is getting a lot of hype but this is his first year starting so I don't think he's proven. His potential is off the charts but we'll have to see how it turns out. They have a number of other guys that could surprise but I'm not giving them the benefit of the doubt in advance. It's entirely possible my bias against them and for us shapes my perception but I was trying to be reasonable in my assessments. jmo.

I've highlighted which team I think likely has the advantage based on what I think I've learned so far. jmo.

Commitments are like crack. You get one and it puts you on a commitment high. Then if you go a couple of weeks without one, you start jones-ing for that hit.

Wow, that talent disparity is still bigger than I thought. We have more returning production, but both Florida and LSU have more talent.
The 247 Team Talent gap between us and UF has been about the same level gap as between us and Missouri in recent years. It has been much larger than many imagined. The Pruitt exodus killed our numbers...and yet here we are with a better team than before because of Heupel LOL.

And the numbers are about to look a whole better in a couple years. Last year's class didn't move the needle much with a ~25th ranked "Total" class of HS, Juco, plus transfers...but my god are we about to go on a run. And if Hype can win with hardly any talent, just imagine once all these 5 stahs are playing...😭😭😭

He had other opportunities. Clearly, he felt Florida to be the best of his choosing. Your preference wasn’t part of my response.

Gotta be the first time I have seen the use of "fallow" on VN..Kudos.

On paper, Florida has 6 five-stars and a total of 14 top 100 players (> 95). In all they have 41 blue chips on their 2022 roster.

LSU has 4 five stars, 16 top 100 players (> 95), and 37 blue chips in all.

We have 2 five stars, 5 top 100 players (> 95), and 27 blue chips in all.

To put Texas A&M's recent recruiting into context, they signed 20 HS recruits with a 247 composite rating > .95 in 2022, including 14 players rated in the top 5 at their position. In one class. Unbelievable haul but I reckon the portal buzzards will be circling over College Station for the next couple of years.
