IMO, the jury is still out on the recruiting ability of this staff. They've gotten some good pieces but we need major upgrades and an infusion of talent to compete at a high level. The defense needs a two deep rotation at minimum.
One of the growing negatives of the NIL era is jealousy among teammates over NIL equity. I know of one Power 5 team that has already had to have a special team meeting because of internal grumbling between players.
This type of pressure will only grow when highly paid players do not perform up to expectations. Locker rooms could get intense.
Every great player we miss on just makes it harder to win later. We are going to have to keep doing it the hard way...developing mostly overlooked/underrated players into great players.Give me a break this time last year we were 41st in recruiting with no traction with anyone, this year we’re 10th with commitments from a potential program changing QB, an elite in state edge rusher, elite TE and a bunch of other quality players and in on or lead with multiple other elite guys. I know it sucks missing on guys like Francis and Carnell but look how quick we forget the state of recruiting was in surrounding UT just a year ago.
I use to freak out but after celebrating too many drew Richmond and Wanya type of commitments while being disappointed about lower rated players that made it to the NFL….. just win baby…. Solidify ourselves as the top second tier team….. keep being one of the most exciting teams in football and we will be ready to take on the Alabamas and Georgias of the world.I'm freaking out.
Yes they can say that about us now. Thus why I said before the season. If we come out and do well that argument will be moot. They definitely play easier opponents. An easier path may be irrelevant by the time this guy is playing football though. The Big10 or SEC will be the only conferences with playoff spots.Other teams saying the same about us though. In the ACC Miami has a fairly easy path every year.
High school recruiting is only half the battle...to me the portal play of this staff has been impressive. They just have to keep the guys we want from transferring.I like the fact that our staff are adding very solid contributors and depth pieces while also swinging for the fences on elite talent. They have a very balanced approach to recruiting and have gotten some good players and great kids in the boat....all in year 2 of being on the job of rebuilding a dumpster fire that was facing NCAA sanctions
They are doing a great job and will only get better. Their approach is also sustainable. Mix in some on-field success and their efforts will yield more results. Lots to be excited for the future even if we lose some high profile recruiting battles over the summer. Land a few good OL, another corner, a LB, a WR and then see who we pull on NSD.....will be a very solid foundational class. We already know they can win 7 or 8 games with a patchwork roster. I is chill.
