The point is that the initial letter can change sounds in an acronym. Why would this be okay with a vowel but not a consonant?

I'm pretty sure that there aren't really "rules" as applied to the pronunciation of acronyms, so the entire argument is pretty useless. When choosing a pronunciation, it probably makes better sense to stick with the most common pronunciation and any rules that do exist, i.e., without any guidance, what is the average person likely to call it? But again, I have zero cares to give.

As a electrical engineer who spends most of my life programming, English is at best a 2nd language to me, and humans are normally just interruptions of my work.

A few years ago, I had a strong hatred for USCjr on account of Muschamp and them always beating us. That has subsided, and Kensucky has taken their place.
