BJM: The first three days for Juwan have been really good. He's been a model of consistency. This is the first time he's really felt healthy in a year and a half or two years. You can tell.
Jean-Mary said Aaron Beasley "showed up" in a good way when the pads came on today.
BJM: I think the level of competition right now is high. He's one of the guys we know we can count on. Jeremy Banks and Aaron Beasley have had a great camp so far. I already talked about Banks. Solon Page III is doing good things. So is Elijah Herring, Pakk Garland, Nick Humphrey, WIlliam Mohan.
BJM: 95 percent of the pass coverages we have, linebackers are involved. We can't just point at the DBs when we give up plays. We're tied into that. That's us, too.
BJM on Jeremy Banks: Until you get a gold jacket, you can always be better. He can be better. Jeremy has been more disciplined. He's not the loudest guy we have, but he's the kind of who kind of sets the temperature for our entire team.
BJM on Elijah Herring: He's as mature as you'll see a freshman be. He looks 25 years old. I forget he's 18 years old.
BJM on Kalib Perry: He was more of an athlete than a linebacker when we took 'em. He's probably in the top 10 percent of athleticism on our team, but we need him to understand how to play LB. But he's a smart kid, hard worker. His best football is ahead of him, for sure. We like him.
BJM on Apache Mohan: He was hurt almost all of last year, but he was still lights out for us on special teams. He's a bit small, but he's so athletic. He's learning how to play LB still. We think he'll get there.
Dylan Sampson became one of the fastest members of a Tennessee football team the minute he stepped on campus a couple of months ago, and the freshman running back is hoping the best element of his game can help him make an instant impact on offense. Of course, there is much more to playing running back than being really fast, but that’s what training camp is for. Sampson sees the potential he could bring for the Vols in their up-tempo, wide-open attack, but currently he’s focusing on the things that would potentially keep him on the field.
A former 247Sports four-star prospect out of Dutchtown High School outside of Baton Rouge, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound Sampson came to Tennessee at the start of the summer after breaking his program’s career rushing record – held previously by former Alabama and Green Bay Packers star Eddie Lacy.
His headline attribute is his speed – he clocked personal-best times of 10.48 seconds in the 100 meters and 21.16 seconds in the 200 meters during his track career at Dutchtown. To put that into context, former Tennessee wide receiver Velus Jones Jr. ran a 10.56 in high school, long before he clocked a 4.31-second 40 time at the NFL Scouting Combine. Sampson said after Tuesday morning’s second practice of training camp that he hit 22.5 miles per hour during offseason workouts as measured by Tennessee’s Catapult sports performance trackers, so he’s definitely worthy of the title of being the Vols’ fastest player.
With how spread out this offense is, you can move the ball and be successful just by the nature of the offense. Bonus if the QB is mobile.Tillman, Hyatt, Bru, Squirrel, Small, Dixon, and Sampson...spread them out and throw the ball around.
And...a great part is that we have a threat to run from the QB position as well. This is going to be fun.
Yes, do this if at all possible. I lost my dad 3 years ago and would consider it an honor to help you if finances get in the way.Good evening all, been very busy with the farm and work so haven't been able to drop in as much as Id like. Been reading a little and I can't help but caution some of you. We are in year two of a multi year rebuild. A 7 win season with an outside shot at 9 is probably who we are. We have some holes that could haunt us if things break the wrong way.
I'm going to try and take my father to a game this year. I fear I don't have many more seasons left with him. He started me on this journey....... I'd like to spend one last weekend with him on the hill. Haven't been with him in more than a decade. Hopefully finances and farm/work demand work in our favor. Go Vols!
Several years ago I read Tim Tebow's book and he talked a lot about the change in the mindset of the team from his sophomore to junior year (when they wom the national title). Big things he noted was that everyone bought in, everyone was focused on being the best player they could be to help the team, everyone put in as much extra work in the offseason as they could.
I don't think we will have the same outcome, but I've seen and heard the same things about this team's offseason and players. Unity and dedication we didn't hear from Butch or Pruitt's teams. That's super encouraging.
