It's a lawless land of marauding, lost people. It is truly the airport of Vol forums. The new On3 GQ is just like the Rivals GQ. Every random thought becomes it’s own thread.
Thread titles on the main page right now:
I’m drunk
Cracker Barrel
I’m here and damn glad to meet ya
Anyone watch Woodstock 99 on netflix
St Simons questions
I believe Bob Lazar
The post mowing beer
Plowman or Pelosi
Beavis and Butthead are back
What was your electric bill last month
Chiggers
Etc…. There’s more but I’m tired of typing.
No clue why they can’t organize that thing and have an off topic forum and a forum dedicated for football or recruiting discussions

Japan has been doing this since forever. In fact you basically choose a route by HS and begin down either a vocational route or college prep route. I think you could even throw in some tech/programing/it types into the former as well. Programmers don't use a degree as proof of what they can do, their portfolio of coding does. Same for some IT areas. Think this could only grow over time...not everyone needs 4 years of college.THIS 1,000,000 TIMES !!!
This opportunity to get acquainted with a trade is paramount to the success of almost any economy.
Opportunity is everywhere !!!
One of the worst things that many school systems did was to remove vocational programs like auto repair, home economics, carpentry, plumbing, etc. Not everyone wants or needs to go to college. If a kid has an aptitude for auto repair and has no desire to go to college, why should there not be a program that would allow them to gain more knowledge in that area so they leave high school and have industry certifications that would help them find great jobs in the field they enjoy. Just because a person has a college degree doesn't mean that they are smart. Shoot, I have a Bachelor's in Business Admin and an MBA.....so point made.
Agree to some extent. It does help, to some degree.I go back and forth on the steroid players. All these years, and I still can't decide if they deserve an asterisk or not. I do know that Bonds was one of the greatest of all time long before he started juicing. Also, I've always maintained that PEDs still doesnt hit a 100 mph fastball or nasty breaking ball, the player does.
It would have been interesting to see Satchel Paige pitch against the Babe.I don't think you can compare any of the other three to the Babe. He played in a different era. Would he have been as successful if he competed against the best black players during his time? I am going to say he probably would, but we will never know. It is just not apples to apples. Willie vs. Hank is a great debate, though.
Do you think they should attempt to put this back in at every HS, or would a magnet school approach like with the arts be better. Hard to keep consistency at every school I think.
Very happy for you, and your family!! It is a very cool story.I've just got to share how proud I am of my son. We moved to a new county that has a much better public school system last year. He was in 6th grade which was still elementary school in this county. The entire year I felt like he was slacking off and his grades weren't what they could be and I kept getting on to him and really being hard on him. However, we got some end of the year testing that he did very well in and we also recently got his FSA scores (FL's version of placement testing)and they were very good. So, I was proud but still a little frustrated that he didn't work harder during the school year since I know what he can do.
Yesterday, I was able to take some time off work to take him to orientation for seventh grade at the junior high. Every class that he is in is an advanced class which really surprised me. For his elective class, he chose business typing. When he goes into 8th grade that same teacher will teach an Information Technology course. As part of that course, the students go around school and work on the teacher's computers even going as far as taking them apart and learning how to work on them. If he then follows that path in 9th, 10th and 11th grade he will receive an industry level certification in IT. I can't remember the name of the certification but the teacher mentioned that his mother-in-law is hiring right now for people with that certification and the career starts at $110,000 a year. So he can go to his senior year, graduate and immediately start a career making six figures or he can continue with school and will have 24 credits towards college.
Kudos to our county for instituting such an amazing program and I couldn't be more proud of my son and I love seeing how excited he is for the future. Just one of those great times to be a dad and he got to see/hear me eat some crow and really let him know just how proud I am of him. That said, he better work his butt off going forward. And I'll be there every step of the way to help him and make sure he does.
TL, DR. Cool story bruh.
When I was in POTS, way back when, there was a person who kept count of how many times we played Rocky Top each season. Had one of those clickers to keep count. It was a lot. Down the Field is the official fight song. It's played a lot in combination with Fight Vols, Fight.I love Rocky Top but I do wish we played it just a little bit less and mixed in a different fight song or celebration song. What's our official school song called again? Is it Sown The Field or something like that?
No matter how many times we played it, there were still fans screaming "play Rocky Top!". Personally, I never got tired of it because of all the surrounding excitement. But we did play it a lot.I get what you're saying but I think some of the younger kids and recruits have a different view of how much we repeat Rocky Top. I love that it means good things have happened but you have to admit that we wear it the hell out, especially in a Josh Heupel offense. I wonder if the band wishes that we would switch it up more? Any former POTS band members or parents of members have thoughts on this?
Following the Friday OFF day, the Tennessee football team was back out on the practice field on this overcast Saturday morning for the fifth workout of the fall session. It was another shells day – shoulder pads and helmet – as the Vols will go full pads for the first time Sunday morning.
Let’s go over the roll call first. Christian Charles and Cheyene Labruzza continue to practice in red non-contact jerseys. Both have gone through individual and circuit drills this week while media has been present. Jaylen Wright’s status has not changed either – as the sophomore is dressed out but going through work on the side with a trainer.
Kamal Hadden was not out on the practice field again on Saturday as the belief is he’s dealing with a minor hamstring. Obviously with the opener still over three weeks away, you want to get that taken care of and not push it. Offensive lineman Jerome Carvin is taking, what we are calling, a maintenance day – as he’s dealing with a slight ankle deal. It is not believed to be anything serious.
As you can see, the staff is being very careful with their veterans during camp.
On to the field we go and it was good to see sophomore tight end Miles Campbell receiving some praise from Alex Golesh and other offensive coaches during individual. He did a few consecutive reps on the one-man sled and the coaches were pleased with his footwork and intensity attacking the block. It’s noteworthy because the lack of physicality from Campbell has been concerning early in his career.
On the other hand, he continues to look good running routes. He made a real nice catch over the middle of the field on a throw that was high. Going up, high-pointing the football and not losing a step once landing, turning up field to get as many yards as possible.
Willie Martinez and Tim Banks have continued to be impressed with Tamarion McDonald. I’m not saying McDonald will play a major factor in the secondary this season. In fact, I would be surprised if he did. But the Memphis native is now three years in the program – he’s a veteran and becoming a guy that these coaches are trusting more and more. We talk about building up quality depth and this might turn into an example of that.
Back to offense, Jerry Mack was seen spending some 1-on-1 time with transfer running back Lyn-J Dixon. It’s obvious the former Clemson Tiger is behind the eight ball and I would honestly be surprised if he wasn’t. He’s only been here a little over three days. But how quick can he get acclimated? How quick can he feel good in this offense? It’s a priority moving forward with as thin as that group is right now – even when Wright gets back in the fold.
The quarterbacks and receivers were going through routes on air and I’m still not seeing too many balls hit the ground. Jimmy Holiday, Jimmy Calloway and Jalin Hyatt caught my eye with some impressive catches today while the only drop I saw came from Walker Merrill.
The linebackers were going over stance and steps under the cage before shifting to run-reads while the defensive line continued to go through the bag drills with Garner keeping a close, watchful eye.
Tennessee returns to the practice field Sunday morning for a 9 o’clock practice. There’s no media today and tomorrow – so the next time we will hear from players and coaches will come on Monday. And don’t forget, Tuesday is scrimmage No. 1 of fall camp. We will hear from Josh Heupel right after that as well.
……
A couple of more notes from today's practice we've gathered after speaking to some people.....We've been told that the defense had a very solid day today. The defensive line was working on pass-rushing games (twists, turns, loops, etc.) and had a really solid day against the O-line in that group work. Elijah Simmons flashed today. We've been told that Juwan Mitchell made an acrobatic interception during team and looked good on the practice field today. Offensively, Darnell Wright is easily the best offensive linemen right now and had a really good day today.
Not a whole lot, but some more context from today from what we are hearing.
