If recruiting doesn’t pick up for offensive linemen, it won’t matter who the running backs are! According to this, evaluation and getting guys on board appear to be a big problem for OL. This needs to change ASAP for stability and success in 2-4 years! It must be a high priority!

I'm so tired of this narrative. TB is a massive tool.

How can anyone not arrive to that conclusion?

Anyone, with a pulse even remotely connected, even by threads can throw grass in air and guess where it will land everyone once in a while.

Take him with a grade of slaw.

I could care less about in state players…that is probably the most overhyped stat…most make their name on playing inferior competition. All that being said no way of denying Ellarbee missed on Francis, Simmons and Ramil…Sanders too.
i don't disagree with this. though sanders' recruitment was always going to be a tough one. like many in state guys we've seen in the past, there's no affiliation to UT, and some are just looking for reasons to go eleswhere. that changes as the culture and record changes, and the better relationships this staff has with the top high school programs in the state. but as has always been said, there's a 6 hour radius from Knoxville that you have basically consider "in state". Thats the bread and butter.

as for the other three, i was surprised most about SR. FM was a mercenary and Simmons was always linked to FSU. i'm not 100% convinced Simmons won't be a flip candidate down the road.

anyway, i think recruiting for the most part has been really good up to this point. but there are position groups that still need addressed. good news, it's August, and we have a season of OV's, portal prospects and new HS prospects to get familiar with.

One of my favorite Vol moments ever… Florida fans sitting near us were talking trash the whole game…. They left early thinking they had won…. They were dancing and singing while leaving the stadium…. I would have loved to have been there when they found that they lost.

I was there :) One of the loudest moments I have ever been involved with.

Missed out on the top Tennessee linemen. That's not a good report for the '23 recruits. 3 Tennessee 4* linemen going to SEC opponents Ark, Miss, Miss. State.
😮😮😮 We did not get some players from Tennessee? But I thought we were supposed to freak out if we didn’t get the number 1 player in TN and a really good QB???
Sorry, I don’t plan on losing it until next August after early signing day, signing day and portal transfers.

If Georgia is not number one then this poll is complete crap. Worst fanbase on earth.
Does this mean they’re going to be the new media favorite? Ridiculous they’re not on that list, and yet their stadium was voted number 1. Obviously whoever is doing these knows nothing.

As Tennessee prepares for the first scrimmage of fall camp that’s set to take place tomorrow morning, the Vols were in shells Monday morning – likely meaning less contact and more fundamentals and mental work for today’s session.

Now, that doesn’t mean the Vols won’t still have a few physical periods. I’d expect them to go full 11-on-11 and team during today’s session, but usually ahead of scrimmage day the workload is a bit lighter as you want fresh legs for the tape on the following day.

Plenty of news in regard to who was available for Monday’s session.

We’ll start with some good news as offensive lineman Jerome Carvin was back at practice and wearing shoulder pads and helmet – along with everyone else. Carvin had missed both of the past weekend’s practice sessions, nursing a minor ankle injury. We’ll see if he ends up scrimmaging tomorrow, but if Monday was any indication, it appears he’ll be available.

Same goes for cornerback Christian Charles as for the first time this camp, the sophomore shed his red jersey for an orange [defensive] one. We’ll see what the plan is for him – contact wise – over the next few days, but out of the red jersey is a good thing. Especially for him, as he’s in contention for one of the starting slots in the secondary.

Now for those who were limited. Cheyenne Labruzza continues to work in a red noncontact jersey. Joining him today was fellow defensive back Christian Harrison. Running back Jaylen Wright continued to work off to the side and cornerback Kamal Hadden again missed practice. We mentioned yesterday that wideout Bru McCoy was off to the side working with a trainer. Today, the transfer was not in shoulder pads, so it appears he’s a bit banged up at the moment as well.

As for the practice itself, lets start with what you guys really care about: the quarterbacks. Tennessee again worked some redzone passing and today, it incorporated the rollout pass with it. The Vols have been working rollout passing much for the past three practices, or so, and it was again a little sluggish today.

The timing has been really good with quarterbacks and wide receivers overall in camp, but it’s not been as crisp the past two days in regard to the rollouts. Several receivers dropped some passes in the end zone – one being Ramel Keyton, who had to do 10 pushups as Kelsey Pope was not having it. I thought Hooker, Milton and Jackson threw well for the most part – one exception is they were all high on a few of their throws, though some were still caught.

Brandon Turnage is beginning to feel more comfortable as a guy to speak up in the backend. You’ve already got two leaders at safety, but there needs to be a vocal leader at the cornerback position now that Alontae Taylor is gone from the program. Turnage has been encouraging the corners to pick it up here lately and has been quick to correct them when they are out of line.

Aside from that, the safeties were working on collision with receivers in the slot, trying to knock them off their routes before following suite, tailing the back hip. STARs were also working this drill with the safeties as it comes into play lots of times for them. Safeties do it as well, when working down on slot receiver in doubles or trip sets – depending on the coverage called.

It was business as usual for the defensive line and linebackers while media was present. Truth be told, we don’t get to see much of them as they are doing the same drill every single day while we are out there. Defensive line is working the ladder and bag drills while the linebackers are focused on stance & steps, run reads and sometimes hitting the one-man talking sled.

Tomorrow’s scrimmage will be interesting from multiple standpoints. First off, who will the staff choose to hold out? I would be shocked if Jaylen Wright participated tomorrow, but what about Jerome Carvin who returned to practice or Bru McCoy who is limited today? There’s a fine line between pushing it and being smart early in camp. Carvin doesn’t need to scrimmage, but McCoy and Wright certainly do. Same for Christian Charles on the defensive side of the football. Those guys are trying to earn starting spots and/or getting rhythm of the offense down.

And then, of course, we have the left tackle battle between JJ Crawford and Gerald Mincey. Following the scrimmage tomorrow, we should have our first indication on where that battle stands. It’s of great importance, or course, as the rest of the starting five is pretty much solidified.

Tennessee will conclude practice around 11 am and Rodney Garner will take his turn at the podium and speak to the media. Omari Thomas, Kurrott and Pak Garland will follow.
