That’s my point. I don’t watch golf with exception of the later hour of final round. I usually check leaderboard and highlights at night. In this case it seems the course is a complete joke but would be very entertaining to watch.

Has it literally been a crap show the first 3 rounds?

The first round had the highest first round scoring average in over 30 years, and that was also at Shinnecock.

I am a little mixed about it. I agree that I don't want to see guys embarrassed, and good shots should be rewarded. But this is one time a year that these guys get a real tough test. The 320 yard 3 woods sometimes make it difficult for me to feel bad.

Made sure to be in front of the tv at 8am to watch The World Cup with my two sons on this wonderful Father’s Day! Wife is making us eggs and bacon, I’m already on cup #2 of coffee...life is good.

Happy Fathers Day, gents!

I might watch golf after the word Cup today.

U.S. Open -- Zach Johnson vents about Shinnecock Hills conditions

Players crying. Phil snapped. Sounds like guys losing their mind on an impossible course. They might want to consider this for ratings moving forward. Even people that hate golf might watch today.

I agree on one aspect - they all have to play the course in front of them. But it stops there.

Conditions can change dramatically on any seaside course from 7 AM until evening. The USGA in their usual doofusness decided to bring the field closer together instead of letting the best golfers win or lose the tournament based on their play. They acknowledged they let it get away from them later in the day on air. The shots that were holding on the greens early in the day, were not in the PM as the wind kicked up and dried everything out - which is when the tournament leaders were playing. The pen positions were ridiculous in those conditions. They stated they would fix the issue today, so we should see better scoring. But they have already hurt the tournament and the better golfers.

Zach never complains about anything. Phil as you called him has been more slender until recently. Which tells me his psoriatic arthritis is acting up again. Since he is on Enbrel and it causes bloating, that may explain what you saw. I know the effects of the drug because my sister-in-law has dealt with that insidious disease for 20 years and uses it. It is amazing to me to see him even playing at this level. I will not apologize for his behavior on the course - that stunk and he deserved disqualification IMO.

I've watched all three rounds. Out of the top ten players in the world, I think at least eight, plus Tiger, missed the cut, while some journeyman & amateurs survived. Who wants to watch Joe Blow in the US Open?

Saturday was entertaining like watching a four hour train wreck. Rickie Fowler shot an 84 and Phil Mickelson putted a moving ball on #13, incurring a 2 shot penalty, to keep the ball from running off the green, & shot an 81. WTF??

Paul Azinger & Joe Buck on the commentary all day about how tough, but fair, the course setup was. I used to love PA but I lost a lot of respect for him. I don't think big mouth could have broken 100 yesterday.

I believe that they will have to keep the greens watered, and avoid silly pin placements, to keep the course playable today.

the USGA said last night they were definitely going to slow the course down, and review the pins for today.

i was actually impressed that the USGA even acknoledged it, but they really didn't have a choice given what happened there in 04, and what happened a couple years ago.

the point was, and it was a good one about tough but fair, is that line gets crossed when not only are good shots not rewarded, but your penalized cause the greens just won't hold a shot. and they agreed there were a couple holes that that was the case.

still, i love watching these guys play like regular humans. haveing to get up and down for bogey. like me.:p

I've described every course I've played on this way. Hahaha

I'm inclined to agree with you, but of course there's no way the USGA could DQ Phil, on his birthday, no less. Who else do the NY fans have to watch, with Tiger, Spieth, Jason Day & other top golfers long gone? The Dustin Johnson & Brooks Koepka pairing will be fun to watch, but that's about it.

Besides, if the PGA allows Tiger to shout **** & throw clubs on TV with no recourse, they can't go after Phil either. Maybe a fine after the tournament?

Happy Father’s Day! May your jokes be extra cringy today, may your crocs not leave tan lines, and may your cargo shorts not be too weighed down.

Happy fathers day to me.. woke up this morning and found out my wife of 12 years cheated on me. I'm sorry I know this isn't the place for this but I just have to vent anonymously. I feel like my world is caving and I dont know what to do. I know I should leave her but I cant think of her not in my life. I'm a grown man who is scared of what may come from this.

I am a little tired of decisions being made for ratings. I understand leagues are very interested in making money, but that's what the NBA does. I actually don't think the USGA did it for ratings. I think they looked at the circumstances. I originally called it a "John Daly" moment, but Phil actually did it differently. Instead of swatting or even stopping the ball, he actually attempted a putt. Plus, Phil isn't in contention, so he isn't helping the ratings at this point.

This is what is more pure about golf. Guys either make the cut or they don't, and guys who are not as well known occasionally win tournaments.

It’s amazing how much easier the course is already today.

The pin placements are all different from their planned Sunday location.
