Chryst coming in is good for JG. Pushes him to keep improving this summer and fall a lot more than a lack of a threat. He either rises to the occasion or doesn't. Another summer in weight room and time with staff im expecting JG to be even better come fall than this spring. If he isn't then that's disappointing

You don’t throw to the back shoulder on an out route when the CB is trailing you lol

Yeah after I said that I saw you said out routes and I thought you meant the ones going up the sidelines with the cb running step for step. I only remember the 1 out route that Brandon Johnson bobbled and caught that should've been picked though.

What about the 2, one was a sack, where Callaway slid to catch the ball. If Abernathy had turned around it would've hit him on the facemask on one of them.

Meh. If last year wasn't motivation enough he wasn't the guy anyway

I do agree with you about depth

JG looked fine. Didn’t look like a world beater, but did ok. Defense was sandbagging IMO. Pruitt expects and demands more from his QB. This can only be good for us as fans, regardless of who the best ends up being

No problem. Happens. I typed my initial comment at 1am trying to get my son back to sleep and put where instead of were. Easy to read over.

When Pruitt was talking about player quitting I thought he was talking to the whole 1st team D during the 4th quarter

If we’re thibking of the same plays, one of those JG had to scramble to buy time and that pass put them in manageable FG position. And he put it on a spot on the sideline that made it difficult for a defender to make a play on.

I agree pushing JG and adding depth is good. I just think JG will win the job. He showed improvement at the end of last season with no coaching and even more this Spring. I think that improvement will continue. IMO he has more potential to be a playmaker and go win games for us. If Chryst wins the job I'll root for him, I just don't see it happening. And a lot of people seem to have already written off JG, which I think it is far too soon to do.

Yeah he would've been sacked in a real game on the scramble play. That one we are thinking of the same play. There was another play on the quarter before, I'm pretty sure, where it was the same play but it went over Abernathy's shoulder because he was running towards Callaway. If he was looking at JG it would've been a pick 6.

He was 1st or 2nd on the team in receptions almost every game chryst played. He didn't complete a lot of passes so 3 receptions led the team. Haha

Also worth noting that not a single team Chryst started against in 2016 (other than the bowl game when he was injured) made a bowl.

USC did win. We just need to do what A&M did with JM to a lesser scale to keep this thing afloat. We can't do what Florida just did the past 4 years because we don't have the defense. JP can't survive without a good QB in the next 3-4 years

Florida’s defense sucked last year and was subpar the year before that.

That early one to Callaway was a little dangerous but good QBs make that pass all the time over defenders chasing with their back turned. And it didn't have to be that far behind but it was safe from the coverage over the top.

He wouldn’t have been sacked on that scramble play. He took off way before anyone was close enough to get a hand on him.

The other one wasn’t a bad play either. It would have been a bad play if Abernathy had been in a better position and he threw it anyway, but that’s not how it happened. You’re assuming that he didn’t make that throw because he saw Abernathy had his back turned and probably couldn’t make a play on it.

Truth is we don’t know for sure there.

He specifically said some quit and some didn't. That's where the whole fan metaphor came from. He was happy with the ones who showed up and gave their all. But I think there were a few who pissed him off so much that it felt like he was talking about the whole team.

And he doesn’t have anywhere near the natural talent and size that Chryst does. So maybe it works out.

Peterman also had much, much less experience.

I hope things work out for Chryst, I’m just skeptical of it happening and I think that (long term) it would be disappointing and a bad sign for us if JG can’t beat him out.

I've been off and on the thread the last few months so please forgive the old subject.

What happened to Tyler Byrd as a DB? It was a favorite talking point in this thread for so long, and then...nothin'. I missed the in 'n' out.

Players just being moved around

And the best defense he faced was Cal which was ranked 78th in points allowed per game. :lolabove:
