Anyone else concerned we’re spending too many scholarships on short term fixes with the grad transfers and JUCO guys?

I’d almost rather take our lumps this year and get 3 and 4 year guys we actually like.

Not concerned about anything recruiting until I have reason to be.

No. Win and you get the recruits. Lumps don't get you recruits, just more lumps. Get 20 quality guys a year and coach them up and you are fine.

TAke too many lumps then you don’t get the ones you really like.

Yeah, that makes sense too. Win a couple more than projected this season and maybe you get recruits to buy in more quickly. It’s a tricky line to straddle.

If they help you win games now, you take them. Coaching in today's sports is a cutthroat business that requires instant results, especially at bigger programs where they spend millions on coaches.

Yes

I’d be shocked if more than 50% provide meaningful snaps. I’ll wait and see

Going back, I think Brian Darden is the Michael Jordan of busts, and Bryce Brown is the Lebron of busts (ie only if you are a mealymouthed millennial).

Bryce really hurt because he was the poster child for the dream that Kiffin was about to lead us back to a quick return to prominence. It was all coming together...

Def understand this but I let staff worry about their numbers. From what one of the vol media guys said in past is that Pruitt ran into alotnof negative recruiting from the competition mainly Bama/UGA that would say " yes you would get great coaching there but not win for 2 years or you come here and get same coaching and win now"

That is who we are competing with due to our similar styles of play. So he needs to win asap to start landing big fish. You can win with a class of 20 of your top targets in one class as long as you don't make it a trend.

I think it says Pruitt isn't in to the excuse that losing yr 1 is ok. Also it says he thinks this team is just a few pieces away from being a good football team

Depends on how many grad transfers we end up taking. We’ve only got two coming in on scholarship so far. That’s not bad.

As for JUCOs, 3 of the 4 we’re taking have 3 years of eligibility left. So most of those guys will have plenty of time to develop for us.

Auburn's loading up on the grad transfers, too. They just took an OT last week and are pushing for Harvey.

I really don't think this staff is too concerned with the numbers. They're concerned with finding bodies to plug holes.

twbarns?

Braves best pitching prospect. Now have the three youngest players in all of baseball with number 1 prospect Acuna, then Albies who is leading the NL in homers, and now Soroka, the Maple Maddux as they’re calling him in the braves thread.

Hopefully a fraction as good as the buildup. Supposedly his changeup has made his 4 seamer impossible to target.

If he is the braves are looking really good right now. If they can figure out the bullpen they will contend a lot earlier than anybody thought. They are so much fun right now

Figure out the GARBAGE bullpen. Still haven’t recovered from that 10 run late inning collapse. :pinch:

Ah, it was terrible, but I blame the weather. They have to stop walking guys and they’ll be okay. But it’s clearly weak. Hopefully some of these guys will develop into a great bullpen. I like Minter, Freeman has been pretty good, Carle and Winkler have done well. Viz is hit or miss. Cut the walks out and we’ll be okay.
