Please let the kids play before we annoint anything. We have made claims for years now and we are still scrambling. Hurd was cant miss. Todd Kelly was all pro. I like to just wait and see how they play.

Hurd lived up to the bill. And kelly has had poor coaches and schemes. Bet he is really good this year.

Hurd was one quit half-season away from being the all-time rushing leader. A success and a quitter all in one.

Everyone says this but outside of 2-3 runs he never lives up to the billing. His TPC totals were hardly elite and he never broke away with long runs. He cost us the Georgia game (nearly another). His best games were against BIG opponents in bowl games. He was an okay back that had tons of carries.

He was also running out of an offensive scheme that hindered him and behind an offensive line that barely helped him. Now, I’m no fan of his quitting on us, but see his time here for what it was: he was a downhill back running out of a terrible delay system with little to no help. He was getting contact behind the line most of the time and he was overused. If he were on this team, I’d bet his results would be different. I’m also betting if he hadn’t quit like he did you would be diminishing him as a player like you are now.

What wolfeman said and the fact he was a 3 down running back who could run, block, and catch.

You are out of your mind. He was a top talent and showed that during his first to years at Tennessee. Despite playing in a system which was not designed to take advantage of his abilities, and playing behind an offensive line which turned out to be unable to play up to their ability, he still led the team is running stats and was in position the break the all-time Tennessee rushing record. Most fans now realized that the offensive scheme and the promises made during recruitment were more than most talented athletics could not handle. I think he made poor decisions about had to deal with the situations and that he should have transferred rather than quit on the team. However, I do not think fans can deny that he is a very talented football player and could have been a productive player in the NFL. I supported CBJ because I was first impressed with his recruiting abilities and that he seemed to be learning how to become a big time coach. Hindsight tells me his approach to coaching football was flawed with the inability to instill honesty and intregity in his program. I blame him for Hurd and other really good football players being misused and resulting in a decaying football program. There appears to be reasons why CBJ had short term success at a number of Universities as their football coach and that he tenure at those Universities were short.

On the other hand, I am impressed with the background and experience of coach Pruitt and believe we may have finally found a coach who will return our football program to high levels. Only time will tell, but I am sure we are in the best position we have been in the last 10 years with our athletic programs with Fulmer and Pruitt leading the way. Just my opinion of a beautiful Sunday morning.

Not diminishing. Just realize he’s good but never great.

Then why’s he a WR now?

Hurd was a big strong back who lacked toughness and top end speed. He wasn’t exactly a world beater.

You don’t quit on your teammates in the middle of the season then expect respect.

We’ve had better RBs in the past.

I agree that one does not quit on his team, fans, or coaches. I am saying that the problems go much deeper than the Athletic Department and the problems start at the top. Poor leadership at the top trickles down through out the organization and that has been happening for a number of years, starting with the President of my University.

$100.00 handshakes. I’m going to start a gofundme called the $100.00 handshake. Every big recruiting weekend I’ll be in Knoxville shaking hands with recruits in town. Surely it will help our odds if I have a few $100.00s in it when I do. Lol

I wonder if the VQ comment about wanting Jacob Warren to be 250-260 meant the staff literally wants Jacob Warren at that weight, or if his name being used was simply to imply the staff wanted tight ends in general at that weight.

Because IIRC, Warren arrived very tall and lanky. Like 210lbs. Kind of an oversized receiver at 6'6" than your prototypical TE. His best attributes seemed to be his athleticism and hands, and I wonder how adding 40+ pounds would affect that.

At any rate, sounds like Warren might be a red shirt candidate.

I work with a very very close family member of his. Hope to get some inside news going forward..
