Mostly By the time a college qb pops and is established. A recruit really only has like a year or two to play with them then they are gone to the nfl.

I’m sure Clemson is pushing Trevor lawerence to recruits but still.

Kids react to what they see. They saw a LOT of Peyton. Trevor doesn’t have to set that threshold (Deshaun Watson already did) just maintain it. Peyton had talent on the team when he arrived thanks to Shuler’s previous presence. He advanced the status of Vols football even more and the recruits flocked...hence the elite depth.

We will just to agree to disagree then. Schools with subpar qb play recruit lights out all the time. Sure having a star qb can generate momentum but Florida won a title with Chris leak and a loaded roster. Players weren’t knocking the door down to catch passes from him.

I keep seeing people on Twitter and other places predicting Mizzou to finish ahead of both UT and UF at the end of the year in the East based on their supposed AMAZING offensive firepower. Well I recently got back on my prescribed Adderall and with that comes laser focus and a love for crunching numbers so I went through their game logs last year and im declaring them and Drew Lock to be Frauds. Here's my findings

In their 7 wins, against teams that finished 27-55 and averaged 89th in the nation in defensive passing efficiency, and also remembering that they beat Arky, UF and UT in 3 of their last 4 games when all 3 had either already fired their HC or had lame ducks at the helm Locks stats were:

138/219 for 63% completion
2493 yards- 356/Game
33tds and 6 picks

In their 6 losses against teams that went 53-28 and averaged 47th in def passing eff Locks stats were
104/200- 52%
1471 yards- 245/game
11 tds and 7 picks

Those loss stats are even worse when you take out his 355 yards, 3 tds and 0 picks against Kys 100th rated D. Truth is they greatly benefited from awful teams and catching other SEC teams at their worst times. They also lost their top receiver and top rusher.

TLDR/ Mizzou sucks and we can whip dey azz if we show even a slight improvement on D.

psh. American is the best cheese for a grilled cheese. that's why it makes the list. not my fault you hate this country, Hillary.

Grilled cheese with American is not bad. It is, in fact, it's only redeeming quality. Grilled cheese with cheddar is just beddar, however.

Also, my wife is 'Murican. How about yours?

Also look at LSU somehow recruiting and then putting into the NFL boatloads of elite WRs with arguably the worst collective Qbs in the SEC over the last decade.

Top QB list:

Manning- one of the greatest Qbs to ever play the game (no debate)

Shuler- Rifle arm and very fast, before his time. If he played his Senior year, he may have won the heisman.

Then the list can be debated.

Dobbs- Elite athlete, average passer

Clausen- Great game manager, elite weapons in 2001, struggled in 2002, very solid in 2003 on an average team.

Ainge- abysmal sophomore season, injury in 2006 may have cost us a title shot. Great in 2007 with very few weapons.

Tee- Average Qb with elite talent surrounding him.

Kelly- Average Qb with incredible receivers and strong running game.

Robinson and Holloway were before my time.

/end debate

Chris Leak was a top 30 national recruit, and Urban Meyer was in his second year. Oh yea, and in his first year, Meyer signed Tim Tebow, who was a top 30 national recruit.

All schools will have cycles of better QB play, but there is no doubt that most players, especially on offense, want to play with good QB talent.

I'm always amazed at how bad of a rep Ainge has around here. I get that hes been an idiot and pissed a few off and was associated with some of the end of Fulmers reign but the guys Junior and Senior seasons combined are one of the best two year runs in UT history for Qb production. He also was amazing at getting rid of the ball and not taking sacks or trying to force stuff those years (i know, i know, dumb LSU play when he was younger). As far as just pure pocket QB skills id put him right behind Manning and Schuler and probably even with Clausen if not for Caseys road warrior wins.

Why set expectations this year? Pruitt’s first time as a head coach, Helton’s first time as the lone OC, two new systems being implemented, new players, old players that have been banged up, etc. There are going to be growing pains but there will also be flashes of what’s to come.

Kind of like with Rick and bball. Team wasn’t very good first two years but they sprung some upsets and were competitive for the most part those first two years. That’s how I see this year going, but I think this will be a one year turnaround instead of two like it was for b-ball. We’re going to struggle sometimes but we are probably going to beat someone we aren’t supposed to (WV and maybe SC). I’m just ready for CFB and to see a team that’s led by competent, SEC caliber coaches.

Alabama doesn’t have “subpar” QB’s. Now you’re just ratcheting up the ridiculous. Greg McElroy was most likely their least talented and he got snaps in the NFL. Chris Leak? C’mon man! Your narrative is goofy by now!

Also look at LSU somehow recruiting and then putting into the NFL boatloads of elite WRs with arguably the worst collective Qbs in the SEC over the last decade.

There is one common denominator that is the reason for this: they are all from the state of Louisiana. Chark, Beckham, Landry, Randle, Doucet, Holliday, Reed, Clayton, and Devery Henderson are all from the state. The only two that were decent picks that weren't from the state were Brandon LaFell and Dwayne Bowe. LaFell is from Houston, and Bowe is now 11 years removed from college.

You don't see WR's from outside the state flocking to LSU.

I wonder if Hank ever wonders why he's the only one arguing his side of the argument.

Self-consciousness would cut the heat from that hot fire!

I had no idea about that. Great info.

I think we’re both smart enough to realize that we were talking about great QBs considering Manning and Shuler were the main topics so yes compared to them Alabama’s QBs have been very subpar. As another poster pointed out. LSU has had god awful QB play forever now but may have the best group of WR alumni in the NFL.

Dang I'm glad we didn't hire Mehlen

Rejects hire rejects (Currie going for Mullen and schiano). Real hires real (Fulmer to Pruitt). I’m really excited for Pruitt but I wish Fulmer had been the AD from the start. Wonder who he would have gone after with a full coaching search.

Nice breakdown btw
