I hope he can do it. I don't think Trey is a good answer at LT either, not that he isn't a great OL, I just don't think he is a LT.

Trey will not play LT unless absolutely necessary CJP would not give up Treys ability to open up a gap in the middle when that is the kind of football he wants to play.

We had all sorts of technology and gimmicks to go with our nightclub-like weightroom. Our players were well-rested but they wanted a more lenient S&C coach and they didn't like to hit.

Wouldn't make sense for the hard-nosed offense Pruitt wants to run. All you need at LT is someone who has quick feet and can stay on a block.

Our rushing ability went out the window last year when they moved Trey from Guard to Tackle.

Not trying to come at you LA but i think a big part of the injury problem last year was hitting too much in practice. Specifically in season. Jmo

I always thought it was because we were getting hit and not doing the hitting. Add on that we were "small and soft" according to everyone, no wonder we kept injuries.

He’s no question the best offensive lineman we’ve had in the last decade. Maybe Juwaun James is the closest comp?

I don't see that happening but then again I know nothing. You don't need your most elite lineman at LT.

Smith at guard takes 2 defenders out of the play almost every down.

That last part is a little hyperbolic.

JMO but they’re gonna want to get rid of all the negative plays from last year as much as anything. Sacks can be drive killers and we were weakest on the edges last year. Helton has talked about wanting explosive plays from the offense and those don’t happen if you don’t have OTs who can keep edge rushers at bay.

Unless Hall somehow makes a miracle comeback to full health or someone like Calbert comes out of nowhere, I don’t really see a scenario where our best 5 up front doesn’t include Smith at one of the OT spots.

Edit: who would you rather have isolated on the edge against SEC pass rushers, Smith or Tatum?

You make finding a starting LT sound a whole lot easier to do than things like NFL draft salary and NFL draft order suggest. Most teams seem to put their most physically gifted OL at LT, and I’d bet that’s what happens here.

From everything I’ve read, smart money is probably on LT- Smith, LG-R. Johnson, C-Kennedy, RG-Carvin or Hall (if healthy), and RT-Richmond. And I won’t be surprised if they don’t immediately appear more effective than the OL did at any point under Jones.

That first part contradicts almost everything I’ve ever heard, read, or seen regarding the left tackle position.
