We have a lot of unknowns, #1 projected qb Will Greer and #1 projected receiving core.

That being said i think we will surprise a lot of folks this year. Im not sure that we beat WVU but i believe we have a shot.

They only beat two teams with a winning record . The average pass defense of their wins was 100. Pruitt's specialty is defense and defensive backs. I think we beat the crap out of them.

WVU didn't beat anybody. Why are folks picking them to win?

I think one of the reasons in addition to their passing stats from last year and the ages of their players is that no one has convincing evidence yet that WE can score more than 26 points in a game.

I've got their projected starting lineups headed into fall camp (from 3 sources) and when I get time to format it I'll post a breakdown of their defensive starters.

I'm guessing we're going to try to run it down their throats and keep their offense off the field as much as possible then when they are on the field harass the QB without mercy, jam their receivers, and hold them to less than 100 yards on the ground. I have their starting OLine breadown too and if our guys can't capitalize on our overwhelming talent advantage especially in the trenches I'm going to be convinced that all our blue chippers are posers. jmo.

That said, at this point, I think we win this game. My track record isn't the best but I'm not all washed up either. Based on last year's performance I'm thinking there's a 71% chance I'm right; We win.

The person we really need to hear from is Nick. Going with Nick's prediction is right more often than mine. :)

Great posts. Nick hurry up and go rootin' around your crawl space so we can get a prediction!

Hahaha how do you have stats of poster predictions? Is there somewhere this is tracked on VN? I didn't come on here much the last year or two.

Those are the standings from the weekly College Football Pick 'em contest during last season.

If you scroll down...more...scroll further...a little more...you'll see my name.

I need to get on that. Pretty sure I'll win by being the only one picking us to win every game.

I honestly don't see how anybody can equate anything of last year's performance to what will happen this year other than some of the same players being on both rosters. There is nothing else the same in our program other than the facilities at UT - and some of that has even changed such as the weight room.

As anybody who has actually played the sport at any level knows - the addition or removal of a small handful of players each year can produce radically different results on the field. You don't need 22 new guys to get past a 4-8 season. They were 9-4 the two years before even with the incompetent brick layer. Now they have a highly competent coaching staff and S&C guy - not the UC Bearcats finest. They've added talented guys who can play the game, one being an alpha dog who got hurt early last season who hated Butch. JJ has made huge plays in the past and he will again. The removal of the let's just have fun coaching and playing is a major addition through subtraction. Trey Smith, Kennedy, etc. in the O-line with other guys a year stronger and more experienced. Talented RBs and WR's everywhere. Upper classmen loaded defensive front 7 with Warrior in the roaming Star position. Maybe you don't thing Chryst is the answer at QB - but he can dang sure push JG to perform better. It's time to start to showing some pride and belief in the program again.

As rekinhavoc posted - cut to the chase on WVU. Grier does not have a UF level of talent around him and he is not going against Butch this time. They beat nothing last season and have a lot of holes in their roster. We are underdogs simply because none of the people making spreads has a clue about what we will put on the field. I sincerely doubt we are going to put a bunch of lightweights on the field to be pushed around by WVU. Even Butch was able to beat Va Tech, and they are a better program than WVU.

Spread opened at WVU -7.5... it's now WVU -9.5

Get your bet in :)

I agree. I think JJ brings a lot of FIGHT back to our offense. His attitude added to Trey's needs to infect the whole bunch imo.

This videio is posted in the FF but it's obvious what he can mean for our unit on that side of the ball. We need leadership and he's my role model on the field.
