Why didn't we at least try for FG range before halftime? I haven't been this disappointed in a loss in a long time.

A couple of things from tonight.

I would have liked to get 3 points before halftime. We had momentum and time outs. Not sure why we went conservative.

The goal line fumble should have been reviewed or challenged. Huge play in the game.

Great offensive game plan.

Defensively they adjusted their O and ran tempo and we couldn’t keep up.

I don’t have any issues with going for it on 4th down.

Way too many penalties and especially the unsportsmanlike ones - just knock that crap off

Overall, I am pleased. I see major improvements all over the place.

This team faught hard and gave max effort.

Pruitt said he went for it bcuz it was out of Brent’s range, He hit from 45 tonight with 10+ yards to spare. It would have been 51... He hit a 51 last year

Looks like Pruitt is going with the ol’ “it’s my fault” after a loss again tonight. Wonder how many more times he gets to use that before people start realizing he has a point.

If you are playing 4 down territory, you run the ball on 3rd and 7 for a much more manageable 4th and 2/3 yards to go. Maybe even get the first down on the run play.

Didnt like the 3rd down call for the pass to Calloway.
I got hate for saying this, It’s not a hard concept lol... Our RB’s averaged 5.2 YPC

Not only that but Pruitt has done it in the past, stupid to not do it here

We were 3-7 on third downs that were 6+, 8-9 on all other third downs

But yes, playing for 4th and short when he had already made up his mind he was going for it is so horrible. Pruitt will learn, first time HC, mistakes will happen. Thank God some of y’all didn’t get into coaching

Was it his fault though? We dominated time of possession and had several critical calls go against us. On top of that the depth on defense is awful. Getting to a bowl game this year would be very impressive. That was always the case

Yes, officiating was horrible tonight; can someone please tell me why Samuel's TD and the fumble play was not reviewed? It wouldn't have made any difference on the fumble since it was blown dead, but...damn. Plays like these are the reason FOR review.

However...false starts, unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, and poor defense is why we lost tonight. Jauan Jennings is one of my favorite Vols of all time, but his penalty was an absolute killer. It led to them starting their next drive on the 40; and with the way our D was playing, it made that TD drive for them much much easier. Terrible penalty!

We have to get better at LB and S...have to have to have to! Speed is the name of the game, and besides our two freshmen CB, we have none on D, zilch, nada, none.

Besides the false starts, I thought the OL played about as well as they could. We ran the ball better tonight than we have all year.

And yes, I have my reservations about JG, as well; but...damn! That kid keeps taking shot after shot, brutal shots!, and keeps getting back up and making good plays. He just has no clue when it comes to pocket awareness and movement inside of it, nor does he have an interior clock to tell him to get rid of the ball.

Still think we can make a bowl. Gonna have fight, scratch, and claw like we never have before; but, I still think we can.

Also, all year I've thought Tim Jordan should be taping ankles; but, that kid runs hard. I just wished he had more speed. Still, he played a hell of a game tonight.

Do you think that maybe Pruitt thinks, since we're not very good, he has to pull out all the stops to try and win? It seems that way to me. Maybe, once we get better talent, he will reign it in a bit.

The fumble wasn't reviewed. The SEC official didn't buzz the field, Pruitt didn't question the call and nothing was done. UT's players were sure it was a fumble and the announcers agreed. In a situation like that, the HC has to call a TO and question the on-field ruling. You'd better believe Muschamp wouldn't have been passive about it.

I believe whistling the play dead means the fumble can't be advanced. Bituli's TD wouldn't have counted, even though he ran it back, but the fumble could have been reviewed and UT given possession. SCAR wouldn't have scored and the momentum would have shifted in UT's favor.

That’s a good explanation and possible. Teams bad so he has to be aggressive to equal it out. But it wouldn’t make it any sense to not go for a FG at the end of the half if that’s the case. You have Jennings, Callaway and Palmer. 37 yards line, 40 seconds and a TO

Correct. It sucks. But I hate blaming refs for the loss

That's what I thought. Reversing the call on review takes away SCAR's chance to tie the game. But I agree-- the loss falls on the players and the coaches. UT had numerous opportunities to win and came up short.

The defensive players said after the game that they and Pruitt were told it was blown dead by the officials. I have no clue why no media member asked him after the game though.

I agree, I would've liked to have tried and got points there, as well; but, I can also understand the decision not to. We had the lead, and were getting the ball to open the 2nd half...I guess they thought, don't risk maybe throwing a pick 6, or turning it over to give SC a shot at a FG attempt. But, yeah...I would've liked them to give it a shot, too.
