Recruiting Forum Football Talk [RIP 9.3.2019]

The fumble wasn't reviewed. The SEC official didn't buzz the field, Pruitt didn't question the call and nothing was done. UT's players were sure it was a fumble and the announcers agreed. In a situation like that, the HC has to call a TO and question the on-field ruling. You'd better believe Muschamp wouldn't have been passive about it.

I believe whistling the play dead means the fumble can't be advanced. Bituli's TD wouldn't have counted, even though he ran it back, but the fumble could have been reviewed and UT given possession. SCAR wouldn't have scored and the momentum would have shifted in UT's favor.

SIAP, Jesse Simonton tweeted that Tuttle and Kirkland both said Pruitt knew it was a fumble, but couldn't get the officials to review it because it was blown dead...

And just because we didn't see Pruitt's face turn purple doesn't mean he was passive. In fact, he doesn't exactly come across as a passive coach to me.

Some of our fans need to go back and relive the November coaching search. Nobody wanted this job for a reason. We up and turn on Pruitt in year 1, our next coaching search is going to look ten times worse.
We have a bunch of idiot fans, no doubt. Not sure how so many continue to dog JG...I thought he played a great game, minus the last play and holding it way too long. The offense wasn’t why we lost. 3 things lost us the game:
Defense deciding not to show up
Stupid penalties

Preseason I heard Cole Cubelic say Pruitt had the toughest rebuild in the SEC, mostly because of the volatile fanbase. He just didn’t think we realized how far away we really were and he didn’t think that we’d give him enough time.

I still wonder if we need to go through two or three more coaching search debacles before our fans realize a knight in shining armor that will win every important game in year 1 is never going to come.

Buckle up and enjoy the long hard slog my friends! It’s the only option we have.

Actually, I think that Kentucky, SC and Missouri are all about equal. Kentucky is pretty one-dimensional. Missouri played ridiculously bad defense on that last drive. I think it will still be hard to win 6, but we do have a chance.
If South Carolina ran that easily on us last night, Kentucky will run through us like doo doo through a goose.

Don’t let the media upsale you on KY for ratings next week against GA. GA will smoke their bags. KY is good because they beat who, FL? Give me a break. We have gotten better. They beat a mediocre MO with “00”s on the board. 4-0 in November for the Vols.
That's not gonna happen

If we play as well as we did tonight we are looking at 4-0 in November. KY, MO, Vandy and Charlotte have a rude awakening coming.
We are not winning UK and Mizzou if the defense comtinues to play this sucky. UK may have 350+ rushing yards if some guys don't step up their toughness. It is over halfway through the season, if they haven't by now...they are not going to.

I don't think anyone expects a knight in shining armor but it would be nice if maybe, for once, UTK would open the damn checkbook and hire someone who has actually rebuilt a P5 program and/or won a championship so that those of us who don't take the infallibility of whomever they hire as an article of faith will have some real reason to believe that our staff knows what they're doing and is moving us in the right direction. Maybe it's unfair to withhold blind faith from CJP, but life ain't fair, aight.

I agree we have a chance, but we have to play a lot better defense than we did last night, or there is no chance.

Pre-season most of VN thought we should go 8-4 with this roster...he is right.

Been around long enough to recognize bad coaching.

Everything I’ve saw up to this point says we have the right coach in place, he just doesn’t have his type of players. They aren’t tough enough, once he has his players, I think we will see a completely different team. GBO!

Still neutral on Pruitt but position the early results

Much remains to be seen. My gut says he gets this worked out but we are at least three years away after this season

I'm still vested in CJP and staff along with the program. I care too much after all these years to simply not to care any more. Too many family and friends connections of wearing the orange and involvement in the POTS.

My open note to CJP:
Your Dad was right and I acknowledge you did not have to tell the story. That tells me you are honest and open to instruction from people you respect. That's good because this fan base has no tolerance left for incompetence after what we have been through for over a decade. If you don't want to win the most games possible, but do want to spend the season on developing a new recipe for slaw just tell Vol nation. We can then to choose to sit it out because if there is anything we know well, it is slaw. We are looking for a good cheeseburger this season before you and the staff serve us a filet mignon in the future. Don't care for slaw.

What about slaw on a cheeseburger? Honestly some good eatin' right there.

I just don't think JG can ever be the man. Some guys just can't process what they see quickly enough or at all. If CJP doesn't really care about winning this season, he'll keep playing him and give lip service to it. If he wants to keep developing players on defense instead of playing his best, keep rotating like he's at Bama. I've never seen anything like what he does with the LB's. It's insane.
It's not like we can go out and pick up a QB On wavers . Their playing the best QB we have. Better oline will help a lot next year.

We opened the proverbial checkbook last fall to a lot of guys and they said no thanks. Most see this as a dead end job

Really good post except JG played really good for 3 quarters just sit in the pocket and held the ball to long. Think he's the best we have, he just doesn't have pocket presents .
