Just a thought that has crossed my mind.

South Carolina lost a game due to hurricane. They still have to play Ole Miss , Florida, Chattanooga, and Clemson. Going into the game last night they were 3-3.

They had to have a win last night to get a bowl game.

SEC gave their all last night

Zero penalties, obvious missed calls.
LA Vol pretty much said that in the game thread. SEC had too many eggs in that basket

I thought he turned it down because Hamilton wouldn't let him bring his own staff

Not according to Lowe. People thought he was Fulmer 2.0. By the time the search came back to him he had told Duke he was committed to them.

I think we go to ATL at least twice from 2010-2017 with Cut coaching the Vols. East was really down during that time but we were worse. He also would have been the best head coach in the division and likely still would be.

Hindsight, that would have been a good hire.

Quick question- been going to a game a year since I graduated in 2002. However, I haven’t been to campus since 2015. Went to Bristol in 2016 and missed a game last year for the first time.

I am taking my 8 year old son to his first game and bringing my Dad this weekend. What is the strip like now? Any decent places to grab lunch and a beer? Trying to eat within walking distance of campus to get to the Volwalk.

Raising Canes is good especially since most kids like Chicken Fingers. TV's showing games as well.

Ancient history-- but Kiffin was Hamilton's choice from the start. Hammy thought Kiffin was the Next Big Thing and liked the idea of bringing in a pre-packaged staff with Monte Kiffin and Ed O, which was what Lane was bringing to the table. Hammy thought he was getting a bargain-- and that was the start of UT's decade-long quest to find a diamond in the rough, a foolish idea that has ended up costing far more than could have ever been saved.

I think it ends up better than how it went for sure. I think the world of Cut as an OC - Fulmer wasn’t much without him - but I think Cut has a ceiling as a HC at a place like UT, and I don’t think it’s as high as Atlanta.

Guys, please continue to pray for my dad. He's in incredible pain today. It's difficult for him to take deep breaths and that is a concern. I think the third day is the worst for pain. The biggest concern is pneumonia. Please continue to pray for him.

I missed your earlier post about your dad. Is he better tonight? Broken ribs are so painful. Were they able to do nerve blocks for the pain? Hope he heals quickly!

Yeah. We could have gone in about a million different directions that ended up much better than what we got. Tennessee was still sitting damn pretty in 2008 despite the relative decline under Fulmer. It was still a tier 2 job at worst.

Although Kiffin bailed, he was essentially a failed hire. We are seeing now, 10 years later, that he’s still not really solid head coach material. And he certainly wasn’t back then. We hired 3 duds in a row. It’s just unbelievable that one of them wasn’t accidentally a good hire.

Fulmer was fine without him. I think people forget he was one of the most highly regarded coordinators in the country before he became head coach. Yeah Cutcliffe was great but he didn't make Fulmer.

There’s really no joy left to be had this year.

I don’t even care if we beat a top 20 Kentucky team. That’s nothing to be proud of lol. The last small victory to be had was the pounding of Muschamp and we couldn’t pull it off.

I’m bummed fellas.

Last year's Georgia game grounded me in a strange new reality where the losses no longer bother me like they once did. That game stripped us of our shutout streak and made me painfully aware that we were going to lose 8 games for the first time ever, taking away some of the last unique claims to greatness that I used to hold out in debates with opposing fans to prove Tennessee truly is (was?) a top 10 elite all-time program.

Since that day, I can somehow take the good and the bad all in stride. The coaching search debacle. The bummer of a signing day, and now a 3-5 start with the specter of a possible 7 or 8 loss season, depending on how things go (I still think we get 6 wins, but who really knows).

I used to have a pride of program that told me none of this should be, and that UT will be returning to glory soon. I no longer believe those things. It all just is what it is, and the seemingly perpetual mediocrity and struggles are now very much as big a part of the identity of our program as that glorious run in the 1990s.

I think we can be very good again, but I have no idea when that will be and there are no guarantees that it will happen. I keep watching because I love the team and program, we are still producing some exciting players that are fun to watch (Jennings; Chandler) and because I don't want to be caught missing if or when we do finally break back through!

Chris Lowe said we would have basically gotten right back to peak Fulmer success had we hired Cut in January 2010. And he wanted the job. But Hamilton and other money people thought they could do better and that Cut was an extension of Fulmer. So they slow played him and he said thanks but no thanks.

Cutcliffe also would’ve taken the job after Kiffin. Thunder wanted him bad. He was ready to take it but the only way he was going to come is if he could bring his entire duke staff. That’s why Cut wasn’t our coach after kiffin.
