There's a couple of other possibilities...
With CFA, I'm under the impression the staff really likes his attitude and competitiveness. I could be wrong but if I'm right, they might be trying to find the position for him to gain more playing time. I know there are a couple of guys dinged up now, but during the pre-season, there was a bit of a crowd at the running back position with Chandler, Jordan, London and Banks. If I was the staff and loved the guy's approach, I'd also be trying to find a spot for him to see more time on the field.
But perhaps even more important, they are clearly showing they will give guys serious looks on both sides of the ball. When you can prove that on the field instead of simply telling a kid what they want to hear during the recruiting process, your promises mean something and your credibility will sky rocket. When you're early on in a rebuilding process, I don't see much risk at all in taking this approach.
