Narrow it down to the OL. Tatum was the type of player out of high school that SEC teams recruit for depth. R. Johnson is a 4*, but he is the kind of 4* that SEC teams count on making an impact his redshirt Jr year or so. OL is the one position where JUCO players seem to have the least effective transition across all of college football, but we are in bad need of help so you take a Ja. Johnson and hope to buck the odds. Niehaus is a Cincinnati level player out of high school that actually seems to be overachieving a bit, and Richmond looks like he would have been a bust no matter where he went.

When it comes to OL, Pruitt is bringing a knife to a gunfight. Yet people insist on laying all our struggles off on coaching.
Niehaus is not playing well enough to start at Cincinnati.

Nah, I'm not hearing this bull butter. Nobody was predicting a four win season. There were way more in the 7 or 8 win crowd than there were in the 4. That's BS.

I don't disagree that there were a lot of people picking 7=8 or more wins, but there we also a lot of people saying 4-6 wins. I said 6-7 wins max, IF everything fell into place, but I also said at the end of fall camp that with so many people missing both spring and fall camps, as well as summer workouts, on top o having to learn new systems under new coaches, that it would be difficult to get any SEC wins. If you want to revise history that is up to you.

Edit: And I noticed you also have changed your original argument from only LWS was saying a 4 win season to now arguing that more people said 7-8 wins than 4 wins. If you can't win the argument, change the argument. LOL!

Worst OL in the SEC, especially with Trey Smith and Kennedy out, and I’m not sure anyone else is even close. Coaching was able to overcome that vs. Auburn and for a half vs. SC, but you can’t expect that every game.

You can expect it against Charlotte. That’s all I’m saying. Don’t tell me that it was all coaching overcoming it against auburn and SC but then tell me the coaches can only do so much against Charlotte. You can’t have it both ways.

Tray Scott (UGA defensive line coach) was at our game Friday night watching Zion Logue. He said lots of rumblings in the recruiting world now about Tennessee about to flip some big time guys. That’s why Pappoe being here wasn’t a fluke thing. Specifically mentioned Grayson. Also said look out if Pruitt is given time to get his dudes and do his thing. So do with that what you will. Happy Sunday pholkz.

I’m sort of hoping Snell is a little dinged up and UK has hard time recovering from yesterday’s disappointment. I think that’s what we need to beat them. I’m not confident on who wins but am thinking it will be a 17-14 type game.

We beat UK and I’m feeling pretty good about making a bowl. We lose and I honestly think we may end with 8 losses.
Snell is going to run through us like doo doo through a goose

It will be interesting to see how the team performs to finish the season. Will they roll over and go through the motions, or will they come together and fight until the end? Pruitt is balancing on a thin line right now in my opinion--- he's called out players almost every game this year, and they may be sick of it, or know they are leaving, so they play/act flat and uninspired.
Pruitt should probably back off the verbiage if he wants to keep the team together (he's made his point loud and clear) and united until the end of the season... he can then make the changes he needs and everyone knows is coming.

Yeah, that's my concern too for the short term. I'm not going to say he's wrong because, unlike some, I don't claim to know. But I do wonder and fear those who we and he want to quit may do so too soon. And some who have promise may also get discouraged. But hey, he and the other coaches have been coaching a long time, and at a very successful level. We'll see. I'm sure it's very frustrating to them.

Yep. I thought more of these guys could be developed into serviceable players and leaders. The continued weak mentality and lack of discipline at this point in the season is surprising.
Maybe the rumors of elite players getting ready to join are true. Maybe Pruitt expected this to make the players try harder. Maybe they are so beat down, they just said why bother.

I’m willing to give Pruitt six years to fix this program. We are in a bad bad place right now.

As the VQ guys pointed out, when Pruitt got here he asked where the big guys were. He assumed we had a team of a bunch of small fast guys. Turns out they aren’t fast either. So we have a small, slow team of guys that don’t really love football. One recruiting class isn’t going to come close to fixing that.

We’re KY level right now. Maybe even worse. Took stoops time but look where they are now. Took Majors 5 or 6 years to get this thing going again. We need to lose the mentality of “we’re tennessee by god!” We’re not. The tradition and everything are still there obviously but the on the field product is far away from what we expect. Patience will be key

I agree. But patience is something we lack as a fan base. I know, some will jump in and say, "how can you say we lack patience when we're still here after all we've been thru?". That's not patience. We whined and complained every step of the way. Think about it, half way thru his first season we were already scrutinizing every word CJP says and criticizing what we don't agree with. Half way thru his first season some are already doubting that he's the right guy. Luckily it's been relatively few fans doing so, but we do have them. And the numbers will increase with every game that doesn't meet someone's expectations. I love the Vols, but I would never want to be the coach here. I understand perfectly well why Peyton wants no part of it. As someone here said a few days again, we are the best fans in cfb and the worst.

The only thing I'm sure of is that before CJP is done here he will be the most hated hc we've ever had; and it will largely be because of his Bama ties. Some are already chomping at the bits for opportunities to attack.

I'm sure some have given up most that have don't matter they won't be here next year anyway.

Ok am I the only one who noticed that in every recruits interviews? The one thing they all said is Pruitt told me ( we won’t be good this year ) but we need guys like you to turn it around.

He wasn’t telling recruits that to make them feel good. He was preparing them for what they were going to see on the field. These coaches have been around big time players for years and knew we didn’t have enough of them. We need this recruiting class and one more to get to a level to complete week in and week out. We have the players and coaches to sneak up on people every now and then like Auburn but we need better players to compete every week.
