We keep reading the OL is struggling because of misses assignments. That is on coaching imo. That doesn't fit the narrative of those guys just suck
some kids just don't get it. if eveyrone could do it, they'd all be doing it. the mental aptitude to understand the game, and how to execute is as much a part of "talent" as is size, speed, wingspan etc, etc, etc.....there's a reason players wash out as they move up a level, despite all the physical ability in the world that they may possess. you see it more easily at other positions like QB, but OL have to understand a whole lot, and they have to understand not only what they're doing, but what the rest of them are doing. and what they are going to do if something changes pre snap, assuming they all know what they're looking at pre snap, and how to respond appropriately.
throw in the fact that nearly all of these offensive linemen haven't been developed physically to play the style they're being asked, in a system they weren't recruited to play in, and i can see the curve being steep.
OL is and always has been a developmental position. it's the excepiton, not the rule, that guys come in and are plug and play. and that's especially evident in a situation like ours where everything they're being asked to do is a lot different than what the last staff trained them to do.
i'm not ready to put this all on the coaching at this point. no one should be. i doubt seriously that these issues are going unaddressed during the week.
