Dooley recruited lesser athletes and then didn’t develop them. Butch landed better athletes and then didn’t develop them. Different failures...but eventual failures. Butch had 3 winning seasons and 3 bowl wins...Dooley 0 on both accounts. Anyone that thinks Dooley left less a mess is just determined to have that outlook. Simple numbers don’t back em up.
Wish Butch would have left the players that had the 3 winning seasons and 3 bowl wins. I'm going to blame Kiffin.

Larry Elder, a talk radio guy from Los Angeles, calls it the Elvis factor. A few years ago, a poll came out showing that something like 12% of Americans believed Elvis was still alive, and 8% believed that he'd get a letter if you sent it to him.

Because of people like that, you can never get above 85-90% approval on anything. Wanting to fire a HC or OC only part way through their first season after taking over from an historically bad season is goofy, but not everyone is reasonable. Just ask Elvis.
This is so true.

Well, sir....we're asking about talent left in the cupboard.....not low-hanging fruit on the tree

Now....do you value recruit rankings or actual on-field performances?

I'll see your 2 four stars and raise you a 5 star to prove my point---Khalil Mackenzie...
Khalil didn’t stay so that point’s moot. Point is Butch landed players other P5 teams actually recruited. That last class Dooley was setting up had us beating out William and Mary.

My response was concerning the comment that CBJ left more talent on the field than he inherited....

I'll see your Toney and raise you a Richmond, Niehaus, Locklear, Eric Crosby, and Kirkland....

Just agree to disagree. Richmond was a 5 star. Locklear and Kirkland were 4 stars. Kirkland is average now because of injury, not because he wasn’t talented.

Jacques Smith, McCullers, Hood, Walls, Dontavous Sapp, AJ, Brent Brewer, Toney, Coleman, Sutton, Randolph, McNeil- that was the starting defense in 2013.

If you recruit a majority 4 and 5 stars, then you will win more than you lose. You can debate their development all day, but Butch didn’t “miss” on all of the 4/5 stars on the roster. It really isn’t a debate for me. That 2013 roster was comparable to Dooley’s first year, and both were the worst rosters in my 38 years of life. Hands down.

Smith, Aj, and McNeil were all high 4 star recruits. Coleman, Sutton, and McCullers were high 3 star players who are still playing in the NFL. And that’s not counting Curt Maggitt who was also a high 4 star player and had a brief NFL career.

As far as recruiting rankings are concerned, there was some talent. A lot of those guys weren’t scrubs.

Since we’re talking about High School Football errr I mean ACC.

How long does Dino Babers stay at Syracuse?

Toby from The Office is terrible

And?

That doesn’t make him a good coach. That makes us desperate.
Maybe Fulmer suggested Doeren and offered to go with Currie to meet him, because he knew it would be one more nail in Currie's coffin, knowing the fan base would never go for that either...giving Currie another strike.

We are talking comparison. Phillips, Tuttle, and Kongbo were 5 stars. Johnson was a 4 star. Kirkland, Sapp, Bituli were 4 stars. Warrior and Abernathy were 4 stars and more highly recruited than Randolph.

Callaway, Jennings, Murphy were all 4 stars. Chandler was much more highly recruited than Rajion Neal. Guarantano v. Worley. Sutton was very much like Alontae Taylor- both were committed by fired staff but stayed committed under new staff.

BTW, I am pretty sure Maggitt didn’t play in 2013 because of injury.

Oh yea, and Max Arnold was the backup safety in 2013.
