I think you're stretching for the most part here, Hank. I'm not saying I think he's better than Pruitt or Mullen, because I don't. I'm not really taking into consideration Smart's first year, which wasn't terrible. Unless you're Urban Meyer, guys don't just come in and set the woods on fire in their first year. Looking at Smart's actual on field results for the last two years, I really don't see how folks could objectively say he's overrated, or hasn't proven he's an upper tier coach. If Jeremy Pruitt won the SEC in his second year, beat a team like Oklahoma in the playoffs, lost the national title on a 3rd and 25, won the east and went 11-1 again in his third season, Tennessee fans would worship the ground he walked on and fight anyone who said he was overrated or wasn't a top tier coach.

Agreed. Smart was a great hire for UGA. He's not Saban level but no one is. We just have to hope that Pruitt is basically the same guy, if not better, and I actually think he is. Smart and Pruitt seem similar to me in that they aren't going to overthink what it takes to win football games. They know what to focus on and where to direct their energy. They also have that no nonsense Saban personality a bit, but Pruitt is probably even more like Saban than Smart.

I think he can remove Coach from his Twitter handle. That isnt ever happening again. Unless its in prison for The Longest Yard Football team. RIP BURT73142CBE-BCB5-4AFB-9231-9C8D84AF3745.jpeg

I don't know how they'll turn out as HCs but the Bammers I know liked Pruitt's D's a lot better than Kirby's.

I think he's probably a better DC overall. That's where our edge has to be. We likely won't out-talent UGA or Bama anytime soon, but once our roster is at least in the same universe as theirs we can lean on Pruitt and his staff simply outscheming them.

Yep. I think Pruitt will prove to be just as good as Smart, if not better. Seems like most Alabama fans think Pruitt was the better coordinator of the two. But both of those guys understand what it takes to win in this league. That's one thing I think some people overlook. If we do in fact win these last two, my confidence will go up in Pruitt so much more than it already is.

Winning out would be incredible. I think everyone would take full notice of Pruitt at that point. He would basically have lifted the Vols from the gutter to mid-tier of the conference in one season.

I mean look at what he's done with this defense compared to last year (from 82nd to 43rd) but while that stat says a lot it doesn't give the bigger picture of what he had to work with. It also doesn't tell you that he managed to do that with 4-3 guys switching to a 3-4 or that our secondary is full of true froshies.

Yeah if that does happen the off season hype train is going to be ridiculous again, and I'll love it. I'd bet good money we'll win the bowl game after 15 solid practices with this group of coaches. Add in to that a likely top ten class and we're going to be well on our way. Really hoping we can get bowl eligibility in the bag after this weekend.

What he has done with our D in the short amount of time he has been here is just incredible. Can you imagine how its going to be when he gets the players in here wants.

You beat me to it. Is the 43 rd the latest to come out?

If we can get guys to come along on that defensive line, I think we'll have a real shot at having a top ten defense next year. Thompson and Taylor doing their thing at corner, Warrior and Jackson at safety, and Banks, Bituli, Ignont, Peterson and potentially Pappoe at linebacker will make for a heck of a unit IMO.

Look at what he had at UGA from the jump. He took over an elite program that had 20 wins the previous 2 seasons (10-3 and 10-3). The fact that he went 8-5 was honestly a bit of a letdown in its self in his first year.

And when i look at his on field success like you say, he’s basically .500 against teams that can match the talent that he inherited/brought in. That trend is going to keep going this year because he got thumped by LSU, beat Aub/FL, and will more than likely lose by double digits to Alabama then we will see who they play in probably a New Years 6 bowl. People want to act like he is an elite level coach and he just simply hasn’t shown that. The east was just ripe for the picking when he came in and that’s not going to be the case anymore.

Man I’m gonna miss this DL.
