I’m becoming increasingly concerned about Pruitt’s insistence upon a certain offensive philosophy, which to a large extent is becoming discarded in favor of more productive offenses. Yes, it’s his team, but one OC has been effectively run off in year one, and this may be the first sign of a coach who won’t let his coaches do their thing.

If you don’t like what I’ve said above, you can read it in your best @BruinVol tone that you use in your head, and it will flow better

So you listen to message board to think you know his philosophy and it won't work? Really shouldn't take people so serious that think he wants to run every down

I think most of us can agree that Helton has a poor year. And most of us were expecting him to be fired.

So for me it seems really odd that a school would want him for their head coach.

They must know something that we don’t.

Normally a coordinator gets let go and they take an assistant role like QB coach. They don’t normally slide into another coordinator role and they certainly don’t get an upgrade to head coach.

They must feel CJP really held him back.

That raises a red flag for me.

I really hope that he doesn’t get in his own way and micromanage the offense so much that it can’t be successful.

That is my biggest fear.

That’s why I think hiring someone he trusts like Lindsey is important

It's western Ky for one and the heltons have history at that school, that conference and wth that AD.especially Tyson. Tyson is a good coach. He has HC qualities to him. All you have to do is listen to him talk

Multiple posters have stated similar sentiments in the last several minutes. It either is or it is not a thing. IMO, there's way more to it, and i think i'll want and see what happens next year.

I think you’re kinda missing his point. I don’t want another micromanager as Hc. Especially one controlling the offense when he’s a defensive guy, which typically doesn’t end well for said Coach.

He needs to be the coach, worry about the defense and not have his eyes looking over the OC’s shoulder telling him what he’s doing and how he should do it

Maybe just maybe our OL and QB and TEs held back offense not the HC. Amazing how people literally think we can judge without a shadow of doubt his philosophy based on yr 1. There wasn't anything wrong with the scheme. There was an execution and talent problem.
I don’t think anyone has suggested our Oline wasn’t a problem in the offense being bad

And our scheme/play calling was bad in multiple games

Wasn’t this a paycut for him though? The familiarity between parties, the reduced pressure, etc.

Initially yes I was concerned he fell UPWARD.

Everyone’s acting like either Helton is a bad OC or Pruitt was holding him back. Really, there’s no way to say either is true because the personnel just sucks.

Also, just because Pruitt has a particular style in mind doesn’t mean he’s going to have both hands on the offense at all times. We lined up in a ton of spread sets all year, ran lots of jet sweeps, bubble screens and other spread concepts. Not like he insists on lining up in the I and runnkng power every down.

We’ll be just fine, especially with someone like Lindsey if we can get him. Just got to get the personnel (particularly OL) back to where it needs to be.

I know some people in the wku athletic dept

They wish they hired Helton 2 years ago

This is their Mulligan. What happened this year was irrelevant imo

How do you know he is because a poster insinuates tried to lead you in that he is? None of the mods in any sites have alluded to this or seen those signs. It's careless that everyone is taking this as gold that he is. This wasn't a normal season for offense because of OL, a one read QB with no internal clock and no blocking TEs. No offense in America can be consistent with an Ol full of guys that were about to quit last yr. that was our starting Lineup. If we get to yr 3 and it seems like he is meddling the fine by my god yr 1 with that mess they had to work with? Get out with that.

Every HC has a say in offense philosophy. He wants his culture and standard to be physical. In games they had to scheme they schemed. In games he could win man up he wanted them to man up and they didn't becaus physically couldn't but he has to set the culture somewhere. It hurts now but helps yr 2 and further.

Nobody claimed he is for sure. It’s speculation based off of LA’s comment, I’m not sure why you’re getting defensive over it

Half the time these so called bad play calls were a block away or the right pass target away from big plays. You just can't tell with an bad OL and QB that can read a defense. Go back and rewatch plays. You will see several wide open WRs or Dom and JG throws to some covered guy becaus he can't get pass read 1 and check down. Others OL on run plays if they block a guy it's big plays.
