Yeah I don’t buy that Freeze wants to go to Auburn. Auburn is a divided dumpster fire right now. Malzahn won’t be there after next year.

Some are pointing out the friends and family angle. Could certainly play a factor. At least it answers the question of why might he pick the Auburn situation over the Tennessee situation. Time will tell as it always does.

I am honestly starting to think it’s freeze waiting to see if Pruitt hires chip and then freeze immediately takes the Auburn job if offered.i think that’s the chain reaction here.

If Hugh waits through the weekend, he possibly gets a shot at the Bama job sometime next week. That is unless he has real disdain for Bama and doesn't want it. By waiting, Hugh gets his pick of some other opportunities next week. By waiting, Lindsey gets an extra $100K tomorrow. Maybe Hugh wants Auburn so he can beat Bama at the end of every year. Maybe Hugh thinks he could get a promotion at AU if they get Gus out next year. Maybe Hugh wants to coach at UT and is grateful that Fulmer and Pruitt would give him a shot.

Hugh is the best we know of. But, does his baggage, the short term of his stay, him wanting a different job, and unknown with how he fits too much for him to come?

Chip may be a very, very good hire. Does his fit with Pruitt, the assumption that he will be here longer end up making him a safer, but still very quality hire that could propel UT forward sooner rather than later?

If it's not one of these guys at this point, then I'm going to need to be convinced.

I'm gonna go ahead and ask because I feel slightly out of the loop every time it's brought up. Is the Pruitt cornbread thing because of that SEC Network segment where they asked biscuits or cornbread?

I think it's going to be Freeze or Lindsey. Not ground breaking of course. But either of those are fine. Hugh is the best option, but Lindsey would do a good job.

Auburn needs us to hire Lindsey, then they can hire Freeze, who will replace Gus after next season. Gus would have been gone already, if they had a suitable replacement. Freeze is that replacement. I think Gus is good with this, which is the craziest thing, but he doesn't want to be fired.
Wants a 9-3 year, then a mutual parting. Freeze knows he can slide right into that Auburn job. Now issue is do we hire Lindsey to get the dominoes falling?

If 4 or more losses is going to cost Gus his job, he should probably go ahead and put his house on the market.

What a whirlwind week. Not even seven days since the debacle in Nashville. Then the Helton resignation is upon us, obviously in the works for sometime. The difficult thing for me has been to understand why Helton didn't work out. At first I was tempted by a simplistic explanation based on Pruitt's management style and coaching philosophy. Now I see as more subtle clash of personalities. It just didn't mesh. Helton's play calling seemed to use the entire field, we just didn't have the line to sustain rushing drives. Still I remember we had some nice sustained drives with mixed play calling in the SC game.

Not sure any coach just comes in and schemes our way to improved Oline play. The OL may be better next year but this will most likely be a combination of development and recruiting as I see it. Obviously we need continued improvement from the QB position. So this kind of coaching support is obviously something one looks for moving forward. We haven't seen play calling that can score at will from anywhere on the field which is something the elite programs approach with their offenses against most competition. I suppose that is a factor one would hope to acquire with the OC hire. Will be interesting whether the Vol AD and staff feel confident enough to hire a big personality.
