Or, they just don't know yet. Like Hubbs mentioned yesterday (I think), he doesn't believe anyone has an offer yet.
Well, isn’t that “knowing” something? He’s the only guy saying the offer isn’t out to Freeze. We’ll see if that’s correct.

Alrighty, bed time hold it in the road boys

Did we not just do this yesterday?

Which from an informational standpoint they might as well not know.

The media has rules they have to play by. That I do believe.
Absolutely. And Brent knows, if there is a legitimate hold up because of a booster or administrator, that putting that name out there only causes trouble.

We’ve already seen what happened to Randy Boyd.

This is the article mentioned earlier. Doesn't necessarily make him out to be a pedophile, but does make him seem like a bit of a creeper.

Who is Hugh Freeze? Conflicting views of former Ole Miss coach emerge

If we get him here, great. I can latch on to plenty of positives with him as a football coach. If we don't, no problem... I'm not losing sleep over this guy. We may be dodging a bullet.

If the AD passes on hiring a proven and innovative play caller because of this kind of article (Watch out for Hugh Freeze's Dog!!!!! He's so mean and scary!!!!), then we're in a far worse place than anyone could have possibly imagined.

And since it's Gannet Company, don't forget to turn off your ad-blocker consumers!!!! And subscribe for just $9.99!!!!! Our failing business models and clickbait journalism needs your money!!!

Yeah. Outing the $ or Randy Boyd as the wall is not prudent, even if its true. And Im not saying it is in either case.

If the rumors of Pruitt taking his time and looking around at different candidates have teeth, Harralson mentioned on a podcast last night that one of the coaches Pruitt spoke to was Del Alexander. He's the WR coach at Notre Dame. Seems to be an up-and-comer. I think there may be one or two others out of left field we don't know about. If Freeze doesn't pan out, these names should come out of the woodwork.

Would you come play for the Vols right now? Honestly.
As a defensive player, I would. I would have seen the improvement that Pruitt has made with the current players knowing that a lot of them aren't as highly skilled as others programs in the SEC.

As an offensive player, I would have some skepticism knowing how they performed this most recent season and the fact that there is no current OC. But I would also see the measures the staff have made to beef up the OL in recruitment and the recent pickup at QB would give me a lot of hope.

So yes, given all of the information, I would highly consider the Vols.

Given I know nothing about what is happening with this search but I don't think its going to be Freeze. I also have made it clear that I do not think any of the local "journalists" know anything or are in the loop at all. A lot of times its someone out of left field no one has really considered or mentioned much. I think its going to be a while and its going to be someone along those lines. I have a bit of faith it will be a good hire although the last OC hire wasn't that great to be honest. In other words, strap in for the long haul.

100% true - I went to J School before I switched careers. You can't afford to lose access as a journalist, especially in sports. Breaking a story isn't worth losing the connections that bring you the next 10 stories...

i would go with a super innovative mind like bob stitt with head coaching experience, and lots of it before going that far down the rabbit hole. No matter what we do, there will be risk so aim big

totally agree someone could pop out of left field, but considering our recruiting situation and how a hire could help or hurt, I think it will be sooner than later.

Weird. Urban fought like hell to keep from even getting a smack on the wrist from tOSU but now that he's been chastised he up and quits again.

Out on his terms

Scandal passed and he remained the coach. Now he steps aside on a non-related note. 99% sure this was negotiated from the conclusion of the investigation

Consider me skeptical that they don’t “know” what’s going on.

The truth is probably that they don’t feel comfortable saying it or haven’t gotten it pinned down by multiple sources.
either way. that's all they've really said "i don't know".

can't speculate past that with any degree of certainty. either they really don't. or they do, and can't/won't say.

i do find it odd that there are things they DO know and feel comfortable saying.....like what job he prefers or that they KNOW it won't be an internal hire or that they KNOW he cooled on Lindsey or that they know enos or drink weren't legit candidates

.....and then turn on a dime and say they have no clue about this specific part of hte search. so i buy that it's hard to believe.

it just is what it is at this point for me.

You're probably right, but for my health & sanity, I wish I knew for sure cuz I'm too old to wait for it all to sort out (almost 40-yr season ticket holder). I currently have faith in the direction of UT football under Fulmer & Pruitt but if $ or admin not on same page, I would like to know so I can spend my Saturdays elsewhere.

A few things...

If Mike Locksley gets the Maryland job, I keep hearing that Locks may look at Chris Weinke to join his staff. Obviously I think it would take an OC position for him to leave. A lateral move makes no sense.

If that happened I’d expect John Lilly to move on the field and Niedermeyer to move to running backs.

Elsewhere Montario Hardesty is joining Tyson Helton’s staff at Western Kentucky as the running backs coach.

While I get the skepticism and complaints about some journalists and articles like these. It doesn't change the facts within. It's not a crime no, but Hugh Freeze definitely gives some people the creeps. There's apparently a bunch of his former students who are now adults that feel this way. That may be fine and Pruitt may decide these rumors are overblown and he's worth it to hire.

But it's also okay not to hire someone as your OC because of red flags like these. There is more than one good play caller.

Ignoring stuff like this and looking at everything with your orange goggles on and blaming the medium for the message you don't like or want to hear is the definition of a sheep.
