Somethings I know better to do... then I start typing.
I'll bite.
Last week, I was told we had a verbal IN PLACE with Hugh Freeze and Coach Pruitt. Just had to get through the red tape with the biggest hurdle with the SEC.
They had got that cleared up before every releasing that info. I know this because when it was presented in a fashion like "We have cleared the way with the SEC & NCAA to bring Hugh Freeze on our team as our Offensive Coordinator". Pruitt hit the recruiting trail with a serious Ace in his pocket. His enthusiasm (I know, seems sketchy if you ever watch his TV show) was through the roof with in home visits cause he knew what was coming down the line. I BELIEVE this is what landed Harrison Bailey, changed the mind of Eric Gray, and influenced others. Everyone knew there would be some clammering about Freeze over this and that but the overall feeling is that it would get done and Tennessee would move on BUT it didn't.
The. Wheels. Fell. Off.
Randy Boyd finally stepped out and made the logical announcement that it was up to the football/athletic guys to make the football decisions which was very refreshing for once.
Some significant donors are still agitated by the stigma of being associated with a Hugh Freeze who "commited adultery on his wife" and we are holier than thou... whatever.
Sidenote: This person was blasted in front of everyone in a meeting cause they had an affair on their spouse about 20 years ago but still married and forgiven (so being told).
While all this was happening, I think JAV posted on here and said that Freeze wasn't there guy and I was caught in a mess of information again so thankfully I shut up and didn't post anything cause obviously I was wrong cause JAV knows whats up.
Then Chris Low reports everything that I had heard as well... then Dan Harrelson followed up with similar information but then Grant Ramey said there wasn't any offers made. So I don't know... I just retracted to being a crazy ass fan again who has lost hope in our search...
VirtualVol, to your direct question and my PURE SPECULATION (with reasoning)...
Hugh Freeze will be our OC. Reasoning, why in the world would Chip Lindsey accept a job at Kansas when Tennessee is knocking on his door. He and Pruitt get a long very well. Great Friends and they very well respect each other. I ASSume Pruitt discussed with him yesterday or the day prior and informed him that they are going with Hugh Freeze. To pass on Freeze and Lindsey while sitting in the homes of recruits telling them (quote from Harrison Bailey) "we are getting someone phenomenal" seems absolutely insane and uncalculated. That is not Jeremy Pruitt. Now can other guys fit that mold for Pruitt, sure? He may think Drinkwitz or Enos would be considered phenomenal. He would know way more that I do cause he a DC but I don't think you can sell a recruit someone they have to Google.
Sidenote: I do know that Will Friend has expressed he is not interested in the OC position. He loves where he is at currently.
