Bump1. Smart gave their hotshot recruiter "Co/OC" title to keep him on staff after last season.
2. Smart stripped Chaney of the QB coaching duties and gave them to this hot shot recruiter to keep him.
3. Chaney still calls plays but isn't happy about being a "co-OC and not happy about not coaching the QB's.
4 Money. He makes over $300k less than Helton did.
5. His contract ends in January, and they still haven't worked out a new deal.
Its Jim Chaney.
yeah, i think the QB coach part of this deal is what really stands out to me. and he's going to run a balanced offense, and we know he's not scared to take shots and light it up when he knows he can.I’m with you on the scheme but i do think Chaney is a very good QB coach so hopefully he can help JG especially on throws down the field.
Vols made big push today after many long discussions in the last several weeks. Considering the other options, it's a really nice move by Pruitt. As AP noted on the podcast yesterday, Chaney checks lots of boxes of what Pruitt was looking for: He's not a renowned recruiter, but he knows how to call plays, has been in the SEC for years and has developed multiple QBs. This is a big win for JG, especially.
Tennessee is ponying up for Chaney, too, with the expected salary (not including the buyout) to be at least what Helton received in 2018.
Lastly, while many have tied Chaney to Sam Pittman, there is no current package deal in the works for the UGA OL coach.
I’m really hoping we add Tee in some capacity too.yeah, i think the QB coach part of this deal is what really stands out to me. and he's going to run a balanced offense, and we know he's not scared to take shots and light it up when he knows he can.
i was intrigued by the thought of some other guys, lebby and sark etc...
but i gotta say, now that it's done, i just have some semblence of confidence in this hire.
if nothing else, we know what we're getting, and there's some relative confidence that we can/will get better offensively...if not immediately, the near future probably looks good.
and it just can't be bad for recruiting...it just can't be. i'm expecting some more of those GA kids to take notice, especially now that you have Bailey locked up.
i'm excited. maybe a year too early, but excited nonetheless.
