This is like a mad lib. Just fill in the blank.

No.

I get there's always the standard optimism of "[New Coach] gets it," or "[New Coordinator] has a lot of experience." But I'd like to think we learned from being sold Butch's snake oil. No one ever said Brady Hoke was a huge hire-- same with Walt Wells at OL, Larry Scott being promoted to OC, Charlton Warren at DB.. Shoop yes, but his progress was poisoned by Butch's micromanagement.

Kiffin was young, brash, and not ready for a premier program. Dooley was more of a talk show host than a head football coach. Butch was a weenie who tried covering it up with a nice watch collection.

I said it yesterday. This staff from top to bottom is as real as it gets. Our 'weak link' is a guy that won Heisman and is coaching his position.

Gonna need you to write out these dozen NFL players and then say that team was “loaded” with a straight face

Players that were drafted or played NFL:
Eric Berry
Dan Williams
Luke Stocker
Denarius Moore
Montario Hardesty
Bryce Brown
Chris Scott
Jacques McClendon
Austin Johnson
Montori Hughes
Dallas Thomas
Morgon Cox
*also

Rico McCoy 3x all SEC LB
Aaron Douglas freshman all-American
Janzen Jackson 2x Longest yard All jail team
Brandon Warren ALL ACC
Daniel Lincoln 2007 All American

Not sure why you think that team didn’t underachieve and wasn’t talented.

This is one of the biggest misconceptions in our fan base. Yes the sullens twins were walk ons but they played well. We also had two NFL OL on that line and probably 3 (Aaron Douglas). So when you grade the OLs as a whole it’s really not close.

You also had two NFL RBs in brown and hardest and a
NFL deep threat in denarius Moore.

*that team was loaded and should’ve won 10+ games if kiffin was a good HC
The Sullins twins were serviceable at the very best. They got absolutely annihilated by the Big Bama dude when we were trying to kick the winning FG. They did not "play well." They were just the best we had.

I mean, Terrence Cody poops out 260lb turds every morning. That guy was unblockable by most OL's that year.

I thought Lincoln had a nagging groin/hammy/something injury that limited the altitude he could put on his kicks?

All around just damned unfortunate. ugh

So you believe this is an SEC loaded roster? Lol Berry is the only difference maker listed

We will have 12 NFL guys off of last years roster, would you say we were loaded?

I get what you're saying, but that was one of other whiffs that I remember. They were the best we had, just like Colton Jumper was. They were not quality SEC linemen.

Dan Williams only got drafted in the 1st round by not being a difference maker lol. Aaron Douglas wasn’t a difference maker as freshman all American ....

Also, we had no combine invites this year and who’s going to get drafted this year? Calloway and Taylor maybe?

Serviceable is better than what he had last year especially when you have 3 high quality OLmen around them.

Truth is always somewhere in the middle.

D-Mo was a pretty fast/shifty WR, better IMO than the much more heralded Gerald Jones. Could catch the deep ball, which definitely made him a difference maker.

Stocker was a dang solid TE, truly in the Whitten mold.

Hardesty was a walking spin move, better than Tauren Poole, Raijon Neal, or Marlin Lane.

Dan Williams really showed out the back half of 2009 after a blah first three years on the hill. Hughes played in his shadow, and it's hard for someone to notice how good of an individual OL like Dallas Thomas is when the entire line is baseline serviceable.

We definitely had top-line talent. All our depth just got arrested throughout the season.

Yes and we shot ourselves in the foot

That UCLA game was brutal, for Crompton, and also the coaches. Didn't Kiffin call the same exact play like three times straight in the RZ at the end of the game? I don't know if I'm making that memory up or what.

Florida was supposed to obliterate us, but we played slow and methodically and only lost by 10 in the swamp.
Beat Georgia.
Bama was painful.

What else did I repress from that year?

Correct. Dan Williams was pretty good and Aaron Douglas was good for a freshman.

None of those other guys were NFL dudes. They maybe stuck around a practice squad or were depth on a team for a few years but no difference makers.

Out of 12 teams In the SEC that year we were probably about the 7th-8th most talented

Yeah but just looking at that 2009 season, D-Mo was still a year or two away from having an impact and I really don’t remember Thomas or Hughes contributing much that year either.

Yep, we had a 1st and goal from the 1 or 2 yd line. Kiffin called the same dive play 4 staright times including on 4th down. Cost us the game.

Great win vs SCAR.
Couldn’t do a thing with Dexter McCluster.
OL got dragged by Va Tech DL.

Agreed to some extent. We will see if JG benefits from Chaney or not. I think Chaney can be somewhat creative with play-calling because he is aware that our OL needs some help.

I knew I repressed something. Holy crap that dude carved us tf up for all three hours of the game.

edit: Ugh 25 carries, 282 yards, 4 TD; 4 catches for 42 yards. Really surprised they didn't have him returning punts and kicks too.

Outside of Berry and Janzen Jackson (who totally lacked experience, and come to think of it, may not have even played in that game), our team speed on defense was totally outclassed that game.

What are you talking about?

When is the last time we had two two first round selections on one side of the ball?
When is the last time we had multiple NFL players along the same OL?

Luke Stocker is still in the league, denarius Moore had 3 years of 600yds and 5 TDS for the raiders, Chris Scott started several games for the panthers. Montori Hughes played a good roll for the colts, Dallas Thomas started a lot of games for the dolphins.

Do you really like kiffin or something? Bc that’s without a doubt the best overall roster we have had here since fulmer. Not sure how you think they didn’t underachieve.

This is so true. I don’t remember much from past 10-12 years for football
