Recruiting Forum Football Talk [RIP 9.3.2019]

Attendance, ticket sales and donations have been declining for several years. Stadium renovations have been scaled back and refocused on safety and infrastructure. The Vol Pass has been a flop for football. The Summer of Smokey has not been well-received. There's a "wait and see" feel around the program right now.

A good September creates excitement and buzz. A lackluster September indicates that fans and media were right to be cautious.
To be fair, this decline isn't just with us. Last year when I got an email for the special "Teacher Appreciation Day" at Clemson, I couldn't go because I had something else to do. But I really want to go to a game there and thought this might be my only chance without paying ridiculous prices given their success, so I called them to ask if they do this every year. (I've been teaching in SC for 21 years and to my memory this is the first time I've heard about it.) I was considering changing my plans if necessary.

I was shocked to learn from the conversation and from checking online myself that tickets were available from them for pretty much any game I wanted. This was in September or October. If Clemson isn't selling out these days then it's no surprise we aren't either.

We will win more than seven games. Our OL will be better...DR was trash last year. He singlehandedly killed drives with penalties,at the worst times. It was like he was doing it on purpose. IMO, there is one other OL that needs to be on the bench. Hopefully Wright can start at Guard and Johnson can move out to tackle.
He really did seem to be doing it on purpose sometimes. Either that or he was mentally somewhere else and just going through the motions to be able to mess up that much.

How did you do it, so I can? I’ve already called and cancelled my service, and then the manager for the retention department called me and cut my bill in half, but that only lasted a couple years. Now, it’s up to $150, which is ridiculous.
I cancelled and then called back in 2 days and negotiated with them.

Thanks for the answers. I've been researching today and think I'm gonna go with a ROKU if I drop Direct TV, which I will do if they don't cut me another really good deal. And I do have an HDMI slot on my TVs.

Oh, I guess I need a separate device for each TV?
You do... But it's a one time expense vs paying lease fees indefinitely..

I switched from direct TV to Roku and haven't looked back. Been about two years.

I’m going to rant a second......

WTH is wrong with SEC Network? They only show “SEC Rewind” games from 2014-2018. Sick and tired of this nonsense. Show some vintage 70’s-80’s stuff.......geez

Who’s signing up for that today?

*assuming the other wins are 4ooc and candy.

How I would hypothetically feel about it depends on much more than that so I don't ever take that bait. I think our record will be better than that though. So I'll pass on signing up for it. But if we finish that way I'm still not gonna go full chef and become a complete azz cause my expectations aren't met. It is probably a reasonable projection for most.

Not necessarily with data, but I run the numbers every couple of years or so. I don't believe cutting the cord would save a whole lot of money, if at all, as long as I manage my cable bill.

It’s going to save me money, just not as much as I’d like. Long term outlook though is at least I don’t have to worry about contracts and large price increases so I’ll probably still make the switch. The biggest cherry on top is no more haggling to manage my bill.

Looking at getting a sous vide machine during amazon days. Never used one, any recommendations?
I’ve got the joule and like it a lot. Down side is there are no buttons just the app through your phone. Also have the anova nano and really like that one as well.

Siap: Aggies on TN recruiting. To their credit, OP is at a net 21 downvotes. Very first response pretty much answers OP well. Rest of responses are mixed between hard truths (haven't been "Tennessee" in a while) and nice truths (history, revenue, big stadium, facilities, close to GA, etc)...and oh yeah even Butch Jones recruited well there.

Tennessee recruiting

For non-subs:

OP:
"I don’t know if they land anyone, but why do they seem to be in the top tier for a large group of top kids? There is no logic behind it. No huge-name coach, no major facilities upgrades, not geographically significant, it’s been a pretty long time since they were “Tennessee”... it doesn’t smell right."

First reply:
"Knoxville is awesome.
Fan base is huge.
Pruitt is a young, well respected name.
They have a hell of a lot more success historically than we do."

Have people been disengaging after last season? Last season got me MORE excited for this year because I saw a lot that Pruitt and Co. can work with. This surprises me.

I think some hoped the "we have no talent" crew was wrong and that we'd jump right back into 7-8 wins.

They were wrong.

Though to be fair, most also hoped 5 wins was our floor...and we won 5 games.

I think the truth of last year is firmly in the middle.

As for looking forward, I think most are cautiously optimistic. I think a major gamechanging hire like Briles could have revved things up. A hire that could get a lot more out of less. I think with Chaney, and his history shows it, we'll need another year to have a big league offense. The defense simply needs waaay better talent along the DL. We need to recruit lights out there over the next 19 months. Championships are won in the trenches and we need the sort of DL depth Clemson has shown you can get, even with top 15 classes.

I think I got ahead of myself. In short, let's go get back to bowling and getting guys in the league.

Man. This suns grizzlies game reminds me why I don’t like the NBA. Celtics game trying to suck me back in...flip over during the half and it took about 2 min of game play to remember why I don’t watch the nba as much these days.

Yes, for me, that would be the benefit. Don’t have to deal with it every 2 years.

Ok...time to catch up on this YouTube TV talk. Just noticed at&t bill skyrocketed to $200! Started at $105 2 years ago. Helll naw they gettin canceled. #NoInterviews
YouTube TV ftw. There's no way in hell I'd go back to Comcast or Dish. I get internet and HBO thru Comcast for $49 and YouTube TV for $49. You can record literally anything and you get locals.

Yeah I would say you probably needed unlimited with your situation. I probably don’t, but I’m still considering it.
You know what worked pretty good for me....T Mobile. Since they have unlimited Data, we had 4 lines. Me, my wife, and daughter and used the extra line as a home phone/hot spot. It was decent. The downside is if you have a big home all the devices will not have strong connections. It was convenient and portable. We took it on the road with us. But when my wife started working at home full time, we needed a more reliable/stronger connection.
