No more effing around with experiments and subbing. Coaches get it right moving forward.
Other teams sub alot, Bama, UGA, and Florida. I remember that rube Gary Danielson prattling on during the Florida-Georgia game last year about how Kirby was substituting every play. It's not disturbing that we do it, it's disturbing we can't do it right. In modern big boy college football it's not an option not to do it. You've got to rotate in fresh bodies and match personnel. You can't not, well you can, but you forfeit any hope of being competitive if your players are worn out and you let the other team exploit match-ups all day long.

We don't have the talent to substitute every play.

We have so many players that have no experience. We have an offensive line with 10 members and a DL with no experience. We approached GA ST game like a preseason game and it showed.

Let's see if there are any signs of life this Saturday before we retire from VolNation.

Everybody in college football is going to milk this way longer than they should. No getting away from it. ESPN has it on the ticker on every single network. The heads talk about it in every game. They even had a graphic in the ND game. For a program that isn't relevant, UT sure does own a lot of head space.
I think we can take that as a positive that UT is still relevant. May not be good right now but still relevant

Very few will retire, it'll just be cooking and beer preference. Iow, the same, sans the heartbreak.

May have lost SaS though.

Agree with that 💯, but Pruitt was subbing inexperienced frosh to get them gametime experience. Not the time to do so when you’re on the ropes. The 3 teams you mentioned do so with experience.
We should have built a lead with our leaders, and then started subbing the young’s who obviously had no clue what they were doing.

Sorry if personal, but care to share what city/area it was lost and what it looks like? Maybe VN manpower can work some magic. Never know
Thanks for the offer but I'm hesitant of it because of being less anonymous. I will say he was with my parent's dog (still missing also) and they are small and medium dogs that got loose in the Kingsport/Hawkins county area. Only place I didn't check was Laurel Run because if they were there then you know...

Honestly, losing my dog this weekend made me get over the loss pretty quickly. So I'm just reading most of your headless chicken posts like
giphy.gif
Dude I’m sorry.

We don't have the talent to substitute every play.

Since staff indicated they wanted to play multiple linemen on both side, I just don’t understand why they chose not to have two units. Have two units and let them practice and play together, then evaluate.
Shuffling individual players in and out does not build continuity.

Seems to me it wasn’t that long ago when we heard about 3-4 scrimmages in fall camp.

Did we only have 1 this camp?

Seems to me that might be a thing that could be pointed at as a culprit especially when looking at the game personal grouping issues

I was thinking last night about Pruitt's resume and what warranted him to be the head football coach at the university of Tennessee. This is what I came up with:

DC at Alabama, GA, and FSU. So he coached 4-5 stars to be good defenses. At Alabama he coordinated one year behind Kirby and basically took a Ferrari on cruise control down the highway without changing lanes. Similar at FSU and Georgia. Never staying long enough to develope his own players into a defense. Sal Sunseri could probably had similar results. He's never really had to do more with less. He's never really had to coach up lower ranked players.

Recruiting. He was known as a great recruiter at all three of his stops. But think about it.... how hard is it to recruit at any of those three stops? Alabama turns away many players that we'd consider huge gets. Recruiting at any of those schools is not a difficult job but you just about have to screw up to not land top 2-3 classes. @Catbone could win recruiter of the year awards there.

Other than those things I'm not sure what he's got. He's never been even a head coach at the high school level let alone at the college level. Really not sure why we find ourselves with him at the helm.

Sound like you know what you’re talking bout. Looking for a job?

The constant shuffling and subbing lead to confusion, misalignment and missed assignments. A lot of the latter can be fixed by controlling the former. Sitting playmakers when we need them most and not getting the ball to the guys who're making things happen can also be fixed. Getting players off social media during the season is an immediate fix, and it is possible to bring a fractured team together and get them to rally around a common goal. Players who don't want to be part of it don't have to be. As long as there's a door, that, too, can be fixed this week.

There are things that can be done this week and there are a lot of people around to do them. Fix the fixable and keep working on the rest.

We are down bignewt, chatta, charger, Ron Swanson, this one hurts boys

Anybody check on catbone?

Remember this arsehole??
We are NOT losing 7 games
Yeah, that was me. Shouldn't show my face around here.

Although technically, if we lose 8, I could play it off.

You have to remember what happened during that search. People stopped taking our call.

After two blown agreements with Schiano and Leach - and a public outcry that made a coach decline the offer (Doeren) - we were scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Pruitt was far and away a better option than Kevin Steele. Mel Tucker was probably roughly on par with Pruitt from a resume perspective. The other guy Phil talked to a lot was Chad Morris - and that doesn’t seem to be going well either.

BRB going to put all my monies on BYU. Nothing I have heard or seen gives me any glimmer of hope that this team can beat a far superior team than the one that just leg wrestled them to tears. An ugly win against UTC will be followed by a prison rape by the Gators in the swamp. After that, no one will care any more. I hope you guys have good fantasy teams this fall because that will the only thrill of victory you will have to chase. This coaching experiment was a disaster. We will need an actual HC, with real HC experience to take pity on this program and this fanbase to come in here and try and climb out of the pit. Move back the return to greatness a few more years. I'm usually leaning on the sunshine pumpers side of the fence but I have lost all faith in this iteration of Tennessee football.

I hate it, but I have to totally agree--- like someone else posted, something is BROKEN at UT right now. You could watch football all weekend and see that even teams that lost, looked and played at a much higher level than we looked Saturday... I mean, look no further than the team that only won 2 games last season, who came in and looked unrattled, fired up, focused, cohesive, and beat us in our own backyard.

Nothing about the talent level and supposed coaching experience in each position group points to us sucking so bad Saturday. You would have thought this was a team breaking into Div l football with a young, new coaching staff getting their feet wet. Our "star" ranking next to our opponent was off the charts... yet they whipped us in every aspect of the game.

Something is broken and just doesn't smell right, something is amiss at the UT Circle K, and I don't understand why...

But it will not get fixed in a week and BYU will dismantle us by half. Even if we come out fired up the first two series, I have no confidence based on what I saw that the first time BYU takes the lead, that we rise up... instead, I think we roll over again and just go through the motions until the clock hits zero, then go out on the strip that night.

We need a Les Miles type guy to come in who's been there, done that, even been dead man walking, told everyone to STFU, and rallied out of it. He would be the type of steady presence we would need to move forward IMO. Right now I have zero confidence in Pruitt, sorry, but PLEASE prove me wrong.

The shuffling won’t stop because the starters won’t play well enough to justify keeping them on the field.

I agree, and I hope these steps are being taken now. A huge step in the right direction could happen on Saturday, and I think Pruitt will get it done. I know, that's not a popular opinion right now, but good grief... I personally have waited too long to watch my favorite team to miss seeing some big improvements from last week to this week.
